The Actuarial Analyst will be a key contributor to the UHG Trend Analytics team, focused on supporting Optum Health with medical expense reporting, analytics and forecasting. This role is responsible for assisting in the development and execution of quarterly medical expense reporting and forecasting processes that drive consistency, transparency, and collaboration across UnitedHealth Group. The ideal candidate will have solid analytical skills, attention to detail, and an eagerness to learn actuarial best practices in healthcare.

The Actuarial Analyst in this role will work with detailed health care claims data to build and maintain actuarial models to support medical expense reporting and forecasting.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing and running quarterly medical expense reporting and forecasting processes using actuarial trend methods
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret healthcare claims data to identify trends and cost drivers
  • Support preparation of reports and presentations for business stakeholders
  • Collaborate with team members and cross-functional partners to ensure consistent forecasting practices
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and transparency of reporting
  • Maintain documentation for methodologies, data sources, and processes used

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics or related field
  • Progress toward actuarial credentials, successfully passed one or more actuarial exams
  • Intermediate or higher level of proficiency with Excel
  • Demonstrated familiarity with data tools such as SAS/SQL/Power BI
  • Proven excellent analytical skills with solid attention to detail
  • Proven effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Reside within a commutable distance of the Eden Prairie, MN office

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in actuarial analysis or healthcare analytics (internship experience considered)
  • Experience analyzing healthcare claims data
  • Familiarity with standard actuarial trend methods
  • Experience with medical expense reporting and forecasting

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $58,800 to $105,000 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
