Job Description:


Title: Adjunct Instructor - Physics


Unit: DCE Adjunct Faculty


Department: STEM


Reports to: Dean of STEM


Date: July 30, 2024


General Summary: Middlesex Community College seeks to fill part-time physics faculty positions for lecture and laboratory courses (in-person, hybrid, online) beginning the fall 2025 semester. The College's part-time science faculty are knowledgeable and creative professionals who have a demonstrated commitment to working with the College's diverse students and community. The College is committed to hiring creative and knowledgeable individuals that have expertise in this area.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Provide instruction for a group of up to 24 students in a classroom
  • Ability to instruct in at least one of the following courses: Physics I & II (science & non-science majors)
  • Develop and use student-centered pedagogies
  • Develop and use assessment strategies that maximize the developmental learning process and measure student learning outcomes
  • Develop and apply instructional methods that engage students of varying learning styles and abilities
  • Develop and apply technology in and out of the classroom
  • Use Blackboard Learning Management System to post syllabi, assignments, and grades
  • Participate in the end-of-the-term grading session of a common final assessment
  • Fulfill terms of the faculty contract as set out in the Agreement between the Board of Higher Education and the Massachusetts Community College Council/Massachusetts Teachers Association


Requirements:


  • Master's degree in Physics, or closely related field
  • Classroom teaching of high school or college science courses
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, continuous professional improvement, developmental education, inclusive pedagogies and use of technology to support student learning
  • Willingness to work collegially with a diverse body of faculty and staff
  • Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, veterans, and individuals with different academic preparation levels and varying physical and learning abilities.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Doctorate degree preferred
  • Bilingual skills a plus
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Blackboard LMS, and PC


Additional Information:


Salary Range: DCE adjunct faculty members are paid in accordance with the DCE salary step schedule which is as follows:


Step 1- $1,397 per credit
Step 2 - $1,487 per credit
Step 3 - $1,585 per credit
Step 4 - $1,688 per credit


Location: Lowell and/or Bedford campus as needed


Expected Start Date: Fall 2025
