Job Title: Assistant Director of Wellness 

Reports to: Director of Wellness 

FLSA Status: Exempt, Full-time 

Location: Longmeadow, MA 

Compensation: 54,000-58,000 

 

Summary 

The Assistant Director of Wellness plays a key leadership role in shaping a vibrant resident experience. This position supports the Director of Wellness in overseeing daily operations of the Wellness Department, ensuring delivery of dynamic, wellness-focused programming and smooth new-resident transition processes. The ideal candidate is a collaborative and creative leader who thrives in a team environment and is passionate about enhancing the quality of life for older adults. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

Program Leadership & Innovation 

  • Design, implement, and evaluate diverse social, educational, recreational, and physical wellness programs. 
  • Develop and maintain monthly program calendars and event communications. 
  • Research and introduce innovative enrichment and dementia-supportive programs. 
  • Ensure programming supports all dimensions of wellness and resident interests. 

Staff Leadership & Development 

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and support for Wellness team members. 
  • Train and schedule staff and evaluate their performance. 
  • Support skill development and ongoing training for team members. 

Resident Engagement & Experience 

  • Support smooth new-resident onboarding, including wellness transition and orientation. 
  • Lead and facilitate group programs, including fitness or aquatic classes as needed. 
  • Promote resident engagement and foster community connection. 

Operations & Compliance 

  • Ensure accurate documentation, reporting, and compliance with regulations. 
  • Support departmental budgeting, planning, and resource allocation. 
  • Collaborate with nursing, medical, concierge, and executive teams to support resident well-being. 
  • Represent Glenmeadow at internal and external functions to build community partnerships and awareness. 

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and engage with diverse populations. 
  • An appreciation for the non-profit setting and a desire to advance the experience of older adults. 

 

Qualifications 

  • Minimum of one year of education from a technical school or an associate degree, plus at least one-year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in senior living, wellness, life enrichment, or related field. 
  • Preferred minimum 2 years supervisory or leadership experience 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and comfort learning new software systems (ICON experience a plus). 
  • Certification in recreation, therapeutic recreation, fitness, or related specialty is a plus. 
  • Valid state-issued driver's license required.
