Job Description Summary / TWC Summary:

JOB SUMMARY:The Earl Carl Institute is looking for a qualified candidate to fill the role of the Assistant Director of Youth Initiatives. This person will provide day-to-day support on advocacy initiatives, and facilitation of the Safe and Supportive Schools Collaborative (SSSC).
This is a Grant Funded position.

Essential Duties Summary:

Working with community partners:

  • Attending events and meetings with community partners who work in youth justice, school reform, and criminal justice spaces
  • Building and maintaining relationships with community partners.
  • Coordinating research and other activities with partners to minimize redundancies and to align strategies and actions, including conducting individual outreach and education as needed;
  • Working with Executive Director to coordinate with other related projects and coalitions to maintain a full understanding of the current landscape of local and regional activities, and integrating their work into Steering Committee and workgroup processes;

Strategic coherence:
  • Developing, maintaining, and monitoring set of pending and potential policy priorities from the SSSC Strategic Plan, to support development of annual legislative agenda, policy and funding recommendations;
  • Provide support to partner organizations in aligning their work to the Strategic Plan (e.g., identifying opportunities for program work to support specific goals);
  • Coordinating advocacy supporting activities of partners.

Communicating with Outside Partners:
  • Facilitating ongoing communication between partners by arranging regular conference calls, in-person meetings, or coordinating regular email updates to ensure alignment of activity;
  • Creating or managing creation of yearly summary reports of Safe and Supportive Schools progress for and external audiences; and
  • The following duties may be done in coordination with a communications consultant:
  • Developing communications materials as evolves, potentially including summary documents, brochures, FAQs, and other items;
  • Web and social media postings
  • Compiling and maintaining list of press clippings; and Creating press strategy, including drafting press releases, coordinating with media outlets.

Fund development and management:
  • Identify potential funding sources to support Safe and Supportive School’s goals and priorities as well as other youth related initiatives:
  • Writing grants, as needed, or coordinating with grant writer
  • Working with implementing agencies to provide information to support their grant applications
  • Coordinating Safe and Supportive Schools grant reporting to funders as required
  • Track funding and other grant compliance, including allocated funds from partner organizations

Data collection, analysis, and reporting:
  • Coordinating indicator refinement with workgroups and partners;
  • Coordinating communication so partners are aware of targets and indicators;
  • Creating or managing creation of yearly summary reports of progress

Legal Representation:
  • Handling all aspects of school disciplinary hearings and juvenile court cases, from intake to full representation
  • Drafting Public Information Requests, OCR Complaints, and other support for potential impact litigation

Hiring Range:

$64,197.37-$81,851.64

Education:

JD Degree or Graduate degree in Education, Business, Criminology, Sociology, Psychology.

Required Licensing/Certification:

Preferred:
State Bar of Texas

  • Stoop, bend or lift.
