Responsibilities

(80%) Proposal Development, Editing, and Production: Provide faculty and academic staff researchers with editorial support in developing grant proposals to federal and state funding agencies, private foundations, and other non-federal funding agencies, as well as to university-sponsored internal grant programs; Read, evaluate, and edit research proposals and accompanying documentation and conferring with faculty regarding changes in content, style, and organization; Conduct a methodological review of the proposals; Rewrite content, as needed, to improve readability; Edit research proposals to detect and correct errors in spelling, punctuation, and syntax; Verify facts using standard reference sources; and Manage the research proposal layout and typesetting while ensuring adherence to donor deadlines and budget requirements.

(5%) Research Development, Communication, and Grant Writing Best Practices: Contribute to the set-up/coordination of successful examples archives; Stay abreast of and communicate trends and issues related to grantsmanship and proposal writing best practices (e.g., read articles, attend workshops); Attend on-campus meetings on research development; Prepare resources for writing effective research proposals, such as editorial style guides; and Guide PIs on strengthening the methodology (quantitative, qualitative and mixed-methods) during ideation meetings.

(5%) Funding Opportunities Research and Faculty Outreach: Generate and increase faculty interest in submitting grant proposals; In collaboration with the Associate Dean for Research, meet individually with new and current faculty to become aware of their research interests; Engage in meeting scheduling, preparation/research, facilitation, and follow-up (e.g., maintain proposal schedule updates, create grant references/checklists, conduct personalized grant searches); Conduct targeted grant searches for CEHHS faculty, matchmaking research activities with Federal and foundation funding opportunities; and Assist with finding funding opportunities for faculty through secondary research and informing faculty about the editorial and other research proposal writing support available at the Office of Research.

(5%) Associate Dean Support via Service and Research Promotion: Meet regularly with the Associate Dean of Research to discuss current activities and upcoming tasks related to research development and research amplification activities; and Assist with and provide support for the Colleges’ research incentive and catalyst programs, faculty award support programs, and citation and indexing initiatives.

(5%) Pre-Award Support and OoR Event Support: Support grants specialists (GSs) with federal RAMP documents, especially in high-volume times (e.g., multiple concurrent IES submissions), small private foundation applications (budget, portal, RAMP), and Letters of Intent (LOIs); Assist PIs with CRC portal/submissions; and Support the Office of Research with the Colleges’ annual research conference planning/facilitation and new faculty orientation.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in health, human sciences, kinesiology, English, journalism, education, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Editorial experience (not actual work experience, but knowledge or expertise) in an academic setting, academic publisher, or funding agency that supports academic research development.
