Job Summary

Based on the recent Proclamation: Restriction on Entry of Certain Nonimmigrant Workers (H-1B), VSU will not be sponsoring any new H-1B visa petitions until further notice.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the Dewar College of Education and Human Services invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position beginning August 1, 2026. The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the candidate's area of expertise, maintaining scholarly productivity, and participating in service at the department, college, and university levels. We're looking for a dedicated educator and scholar to teach in their area of expertise, contribute to ongoing research and scholarship, and engage in meaningful service at the department, college, and university levels. This on-campus position offers you the opportunity to be part of a vibrant academic and clinical community, with research expectations and teaching load that support a healthy work-life balance.

Our department is home to 10 full-time faculty members who support students in both the B.S.Ed. and M.S.Ed. programs in Speech-Language Pathology. We are committed to guiding students throughout their professional journey and collaborate closely with educational and medical partners across South Georgia and beyond. Faculty and students thrive in our state-of-the-art facility, where experiential learning and strong clinical partnerships create a rich and supportive environment for teaching, research, and service.

Responsibilities

Department Summary

Teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level, academic advising/mentoring for undergraduate and graduate students, maintaining scholarly productivity, and participating in service at the department, college, and university levels.

Typical Allocation of Duties:

Teaching and scholarship - 80%
Teaches classes and conducts/presents research in the employee's academic discipline.

Service - 20%
Participates in service at the department, college, and university levels.

Required Qualifications
  • Terminal degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders or closely related field (Ph.D., Ed.D., SLPD)

  • Strong record of, or potential for publications in the candidate's area of interest

  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, as well as scholarship

Preferred Qualifications
  • Expertise in pediatric evaluation and treatment of speech disorders

  • Eligibility for ASHA certified in Speech-Language Pathology, and/or licensure in Georgia

  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative setting

  • A record of mentoring students, in clinical and/or research experiences

  • Previous college-level teaching experience in Communication Sciences and Disorders

  • Evidence of knowledge and experience with course subject-matter, evidence-based teaching, and clinical practices, as demonstrated in application materials

  • Strong communication skills and a student-inspired approach to teaching for educational excellence, equity, advocacy, and serving students and communities, as evidenced and addressed in application materials

Proposed Salary

Commensurate with experience.
