Advertised Job Summary:The Linguistics Program in the McCausland College of Arts and Sciences at the University of South Carolina (USC) invites applications for a 9-month, full-time, tenure-track position in Computational Linguistics and Artificial Intelligence at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 16, 2026. This interdisciplinary joint hire (with the home department to be determined based on candidate’s specialization) will be part of a university-wide cluster hire in Data Sciences, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Cyber security and aims to support cutting-edge research at the intersection of AI and Linguistics.
The successful candidate must have and maintain an active program of research and demonstrate the potential for securingextramural funding as well as excellence in teaching and mentorship. The candidate must be a dynamic educator willing toteach both undergraduate and graduate courses serving their area of specialization and Linguistics generally, with a typicalteaching load of two courses per semester. They will also be expected to mentor graduate students in linguistics and
participate in service to the broader USC community.
- We seek applicants who will have a Ph.D. in Linguistics or closely linked discipline with linguistics training by August 15, 2026.
- We particularly welcome applicants whose research agenda in Linguistics employs computational methods and whose work includes or leverages Large Language Models (LLMs).
- Successful candidates may also specialize in natural language processing (NLP) and/or machine learning or may investigate other aspects of AI and language science.
