Job Description

Position Summary

The Assistant Professor of Economics is a full-time, tenure-track position that will teach in-person, undergraduate classes (a 4/4 teaching load is standard), produce peer-reviewed research, and conduct service appropriate to their rank and tenure. A doctorate in economics is required.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to teach across the undergraduate economics curriculum. Primary teaching responsibilities include ECO200 Principles of Macroeconomics and ECO201 Principles of Microeconomics. Preference will be given to candidates who can also teach upper-level courses such as ECO360 Intermediate Macroeconomics, ECO370 Money and Banking, and IBS401 International Economics. There may also be opportunities to teach in the graduate programs at York College of Pennsylvania.

We seek collegial candidates with demonstrated excellence in communication skills and success in classroom teaching, passion for experiential learning, and the ability to build relationships with industry partners.


Essential Functions

  • Teaching four 3-credit face-to-face courses each semester (fall and spring).
  • Advising undergraduate students.
  • Maintaining a program of scholarly research resulting in publication in peer-reviewed venues.
  • Engaging in service to the department, school, college, and community.
  • Representing the department and school at events, including recruitment events.
  • Experience and Education Required

  • Earned doctorate (by August 2026) in economics.
  • Experience teaching face-to-face classes in a collegiate environment.
  • Published (or accepted and pending) a peer-reviewed journal article preferred; publications in process with a strong pipeline for research will be considered.
  • Able to work in the US and willing to live in the central Pennsylvania area in order to teach face-to-face classes.
  • Experience in an industry position that will translate to the classroom would be preferable.
  • Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong teaching skills as demonstrated by teaching evaluations and a teaching demonstration are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize experiential learning pedagogies is required. Experience with project-based learning, community-based scholarship and other such approaches is preferred.
  • Research skills sufficient to publish in peer-reviewed venues
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to working as part of a collaborative team are required.
