The Department of Educational Psychology in the Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education at the University of Oklahoma invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Qualitative Research.

The Department of Educational Psychology (https://www.ou.edu/education/academics/educational-psychology) offers degree programs at the masters and doctoral levels in Learning Experience Design and Technology; Science of Psychology, Data, and Research; Professional Counseling; and Special Education; and at the undergraduate level in Special Education with teacher certification.

We seek candidates with particular expertise in qualitative educational research methods and methodologies, who are well-grounded in current educational theories, and who are committed to building collaborative and innovative scholarship that will contribute to transforming students' and adults' learning, lives, and communities. The successful candidate will join the Learning Experience Design and Technology (LXDT) program and will teach and develop qualitative and mixed-method courses and course sequences that will effectively prepare graduate students in all three departments in the Jeannine Rainbolt College of Education (JRCoE) for rigorous qualitative inquiry regardless of their field. The successful candidate will collaborate with qualitative-methods-oriented scholars throughout the college to ensure a robust variety of qualitative courses are available to comprehensively prepare qualitative researchers with diverse scholarly emphases and aims.

The responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to teaching graduate courses in qualitative research; coordinating with qualitative-focused faculty in the college to facilitate the teaching of additional qualitative and mixed-methods research courses; advising and mentoring graduate students; directing doctoral dissertations and serving on doctoral committees; developing or continuing an impactful research agenda; and providing service to the department, college, university, profession, and community.

Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate or completion of doctorate degree by August 1, 2026, in an educational or closely related field, with emphasis  coursework / experience in qualitative research.
  • Evidence of willingness and ability to conduct rigorous qualitative research and make scholarly contributions to their field.
  • Evidence of willingness and ability to provide quality instruction and mentorship for graduate students.

Desired Qualifications

  • Strong program of research implementing qualitative research methodologies.
  • Experience teaching courses in qualitative research and mixed methods designs.
  • Strong grounding in theory, particularly related to critical and learner-centered pedagogies.
  • Explicit alignment between theory and research methodologies and methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across a variety of educational settings.
  • Demonstrated commitment to community-engaged work, as well as ethical and reciprocal research that positively impacts schools and communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach one or more among a wide variety of other courses relevant to the Learning Experience Design and Technology Graduate Program on an occasional / irregular basis.
  • Demonstrated ability or potential to obtain external funding.

Application review will begin November 17, 2025 and continue until the position is filled. The position is a 9-month position and is expected to begin August of 2026.
