Position Description :The School of Family and Consumer Sciences at Texas State University seeks an energetic faculty member who is committed to the highest standards of professional activities. The successful applicant will be expected to teach undergraduate courses face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats to support students seeking teacher certification in Family and Consumer Sciences. Courses include topics such as family and personal resource management, instructional management for family and consumer sciences, and family and consumer sciences: clinical student teaching. The candidate will collaborate with The College of Education, Office of Educator Preparation (OEP) as the program coordinator for clinical teaching. This includes preparing students for the clinical teaching experience (student teaching) as well as supervising and mentoring students during their clinical experience per instructions from OEP.
The position may include teaching responsibilities in one of the following programs: Consumer Affairs, Fashion Merchandising, Human Development and Family Sciences, Interior Design, or Nutrition and Foods.
In addition, the applicant will be expected to actively recruit for the undergraduate FCS teacher education degree programs; perform undergraduate student advising; promote undergraduate research; participate in professional organizations; engage in service activities at the school, college and university level that build relationships with other universities departments, local business, and community organizations.
- Master’s or Doctorate in Family and Consumer Sciences Education or Education or related field is required.
- Applicants must hold a current teaching credential in Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS).
- High school and/or middle school teaching experience is required.
- Experience mentoring or supervising student teachers is highly preferred. Evidence of effective teaching in FCS programs is preferred.
- Evidence of successful recruitment initiatives or effective recruitment ideas is preferred.
- Experience working with first-generation post-secondary students is highly desirable.
