Job Description

The Department of Languages, Literatures, & Cultures in the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of Richmond invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position in Italian Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin in August 2026.

We seek a teacher-scholar with research and teaching interests in the 20th and/or 21st centuries. The department welcomes expertise in at least two of the following areas: Italian Literature, Cinema and Culture; Mediterranean and Transcultural Studies; Ethnic Studies; Italian American Culture and Literature; Translation Studies; Environmental Humanities and Ecocriticism; Gender and Sexuality Studies.

Full professional fluency in Italian and English and a strong commitment to teaching at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum are required. We are particularly interested in applicants willing to engage in collaboration with the University's programs in Film Studies, Global Studies, History, Art History, Classical Studies, GSS (Gender and Sexuality Studies), and/or PPEL (Philosophy, Politics, Economics, and Law). Experience in language teaching and instructional technologies is preferred. The teaching load will be five courses per academic year.

Italian Studies is a thriving program in the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures, with an average of 70 students enrolled in beginning, intermediate, and upper-level courses each semester. The program offers both a major and a minor.
