Job Description
The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is searching for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Philosophy, beginning August 2026. The teaching load is five courses per year over two semesters (3/2).
The successful applicant must have a PhD in philosophy (or other relevant field) by August 2026 and will preferably have demonstrated excellence in research and teaching. Areas of specialization (AOS) should include applied ethics, broadly construed; areas of competence (AOC) are open. The new hire will be expected to mainly teach courses in applied ethics (especially bioethics and ethics of AI) at the undergraduate and graduate levels, supporting a graduate certificate in Ethical Dimensions of AI and a planned Master’s degree in Bioethics.
