Pay Range
The pay range for this role is $31.25-$46.88 per hour. Compensation is based on your unique qualifications and experience.

Job Summary
The Assistant Superintendent supports the Superintendent in overseeing all field operations on a project to ensure that self-performed and subcontracted trade work are in compliance with contract documents, budget, and the project schedule. They support the Project Delivery Team throughout the entire life cycle of the project, from bid to completion. Under the direction of the Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent is responsible for supporting project delivery activities, assisting with on-site construction office set-up, schedule compliance, and project safety. They assist in recognizing and reporting prime and subcontract change event opportunities, reviewing project submittals, and confirming work conforms to approved submittals. The Assistant Superintendent works collaboratively with personnel assigned by the Project Delivery Team and enforces safety and quality control policies among employees and subcontractors.
Responsibilities and Duties
Construction Management
  • Assists the preconstruction team with project staffing requirements, CPM schedule development, means and methods of construction, required tools & equipment, site layout, gaps in scope, initial RFI development, mobilization requirements, review of Geotechnical reports, and site safety concerns.
  • Oversees daily project safety for all parties involved on the construction site.
  • Collaborates daily construction activities with the project team.
  • Review project safety plans and protocols with Safety Manager. Support and implement on-site safety monitoring and education.
  • Support and implement the management of daily huddles and review DJHAs with subcontractors.
  • Support and enforce the review and implementation of safety protocols with crew & staff, and with subcontractors.
  • Examine and install safety barriers where required.
  • Read and understand the Geotechnical Report.
  • Read and fully understand contract drawings, specs, scope, and other contract related documents
  • Install and maintain erosion & sediment control devices.
  • Install temporary office trailers & utilities.
  • Support the development of a tool and equipment list for mobilization.
  • Lead installation crews to meet or exceed daily production goals.
  • Review submittals for picking and storage requirements.
  • Identify and request materials & supplies a minimum of one week in advance of the proposed construction activity.
  • Request additional workers and schedule required equipment in advance.
  • Reviews work packs with the project engineer and provides directive on modification or development of work packs.
  • Reviews work packs with installation crews. Request in advance all materials required to perform assigned tasks.
  • Request miscellaneous supplies required by crews.
  • Provide support for the weekly progress meetings.
  • Support the review, coordination, and management of the 3-week look-ahead schedules. Notify and coordinate 3-week look-ahead schedules with subcontractors.
  • Schedule shutdowns as needed with plant operations.
  • Provide support for the management of weekly internal/sub coordination meetings.
  • Manage the primary & secondary subcontractor installation crews.
  • Submit external & internal daily reports.
  • Stage materials for installation crews (self-perform or subcontracted) as necessary.
  • Confirm Punchlist items are completed promptly & accurately.
  • Perform demobilization from the project site.
  • Input daily payroll for designated crews, to be approved by the superintendent.
  • Create and update change events with accurate and timely information as events develop and evolve.
  • Responsible for determining, scheduling, and completing all required inspections set forth by the contract requirements, internal liability, or governing regulations.
  • Responsible for managing the development, execution, and completion of the project punch list process.
  • Responsible for developing as-built drawings throughout the construction process and providing final versions required for close out documentation.
  • Manages the construction staff's relationship with facility operations staff.
  • Schedules, coordinates, and executes construction activities and required shutdowns with all parties involved or with involving interests.
  • Assists the client and client staff/representatives during times of emergency.
  • Attends all project required meetings and presents a thorough understanding of the project and its requirements.
  • Develop, present, and explain lookahead schedules to all stakeholders.
  • Responsible for the installation, maintenance, documentation, and inspections of all sediment/erosion control requirements set forth by the contract documents, internal liability, or local governing regulations.
  • Participate and provide required input during post-project review.
  • Assists safety department in developing training schedules, site emergency routes, site evacuation plans, strategic safety plans to perform hazardous work and provide input on areas of concern or question.
  • Records and reports damage to equipment or materials delivered to site to appropriate parties.
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required.
Cost Management
  • Creates cost estimates for labor, supplies, equipment, materials, and other project costs.
  • Collaborates with clients, Project Managers, and other construction management to determine budget and timeline.
  • Determine, manage, and track equipment cost and utilization.
  • Manages the input and accuracy of payroll being submitted.
  • Manages the implementation of change events and procures required documentation to PM staff for accurate billing in the event a change order is deemed.
  • Manages the use and accuracy of time & material tickets.
  • Perform project labor audits as requested based upon completion of work.
  • Reviews materials deliveries against approved POs, and Submittals.
  • Reviews all invoicing for accuracy against standing purchase orders and subcontracts.
  • Implements management techniques that are cost-effective and efficient.
  • Provides input for employee raises and promotions.
  • Confirm delivered materials' quantities conform with delivery receipts/bills-of-lading.
  • Store and manage inventory of materials received based on location and storage requirements.
  • Code delivery tickets for materials they themselves have ordered or released then submit utilizing company submission platform unless otherwise directed by a superior.
  • Inventory tools and manage storage and security. Report missing or damaged tools internally.
  • Input accurate daily & weekly payroll reports to the superintendent via company payroll platform.
  • Support the management of the timekeeping process for payroll or change events by providing response to inquiries that may arise.
  • Record and report payroll data to field management.
  • Manage installation teams to meet production goals.
Information Management
  • Coordinates materials and equipment delivery with vendors and suppliers.
  • Creates and maintains look ahead schedules for workers and subcontractors.
  • Manages a daily log for the job site's operations, reporting to management as necessary.
  • Makes operational and procedural changes as necessary to best meet construction deadlines.
  • Maintains open, daily communications with construction staff and project management staff.
  • Assists in the development of the project schedule and provides input regarding budget concerns as well as means & methods of construction prior to the commencement of the project.
  • Ensures quality standards are met.
  • Oversees the process of ordering and releasing direct materials.
  • Maintains records for site personnel such as daily field reports, field orders, material procurement deliveries and RFIs.
Personnel Management
  • Manages a team of workers, including work schedules, project progress and resource allocation.
  • Assigns daily work assignments to employees and subcontractors.
  • Directs all field personnel to achieve completion of the project on schedule.
  • Notifies the Vice President of Construction of pending long-term and short-term personnel and equipment requirements.
  • Responsible for the training and growth development of construction staff while promoting quality, safety, and accuracy.
  • Performs field employee interviews and hiring based upon the project requirements.
  • Performs initial employee orientations and determines training requirements.
  • Performs field employee evaluations and develops improvement plans for employees when necessary.
  • Responsible for executing the termination process of field employees and procuring the proper documentation to HR when necessary.
  • Manages and determines approval of employee time off request.
  • Manages and assures that all equipment and tools are in safe working condition and are receiving required maintenance/repairs as deemed necessary by the manufacturer or Bearing's internal asset management staff.
  • Advise and enforce general company policies and procedures.
  • Must provide clear and concise directions to all designated employees and subcontractors performing the work.
  • Conduct Bi-annual Employee evaluations and reviews.
  • Develop employee improvement plans when necessary.
  • Conduct employee orientation and training as required.
  • Build and maintain Positive morale among employees.
  • Address and document employee misconduct utilizing HR approved guidelines.

Experience and Education
  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • 5+ years of experience in construction duties required.
  • Previous water/wastewater construction experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations
  • Experience with construction-related software is desirable.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and reliable transportation is required.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to work in an indoor office environment and an active outdoor construction site environment.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and work in confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment.
  • Must be able to traverse irregular and steep terrain.
  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions and be exposed to dirt or dust.
  • Must be able to wear the required personal protective equipment while at work.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 25lbs regularly and 50lbs occasionally.
  • Must be able to work for long periods of time while standing.
  • Assist in the training and mentoring of junior site staff and interns.
