Position Summary:The Assistant Technical Director provides direct support for campus and external rental events in Wentz Concert Hall, Madden Black Box Theatre, Meiley Swallow Theatre, Pfeiffer Auditorium and Heininger Auditorium – with the exception of designing academic Theatre Department productions.
This is not a faculty or academic teaching position. Instead, it’s a highly collaborative, service-oriented role focused on ensuring exceptional onsite technical support, efficient venue operations, and a positive experience for everyone who steps on our stages — from students and faculty to guest artists and external partners.
- Support the Technical Director and Production Manager in the organization, operation, and maintenance of all technical production equipment, expendables, and venue infrastructure.
- Provide hands-on expertise in lighting, electrics, and rigging.
- Operate and troubleshoot audio systems as required for supported events.
- Supervise and guide student production staff, assisting with on-site leadership and skill development through on-the-job mentorship.
- Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external partners, ensuring smooth technical coordination for campus and community events.
- Serve as the on-site technical lead for assigned performances and activities.
- Conduct routine inspections, cleaning, and maintenance of performance spaces and equipment; help maintain organized and safe work areas.
- Reinforce and model safety best practices, including College and departmental safety policies.
- Maintain detailed inventories of technical equipment and supplies, identifying needs for replacement or upgrade.
- Collaborate with colleagues across campus to support the success of events that take place in the College’s performing arts venues.
- Any other duties as appropriately assigned by Production Manager or Technical Director

An individual in this position must possess the proficiency, wherewithal and knowledge of principles and processes for providing high-quality customer and personal services to both internal and external customers of the College.
- Ability to communicate in the English language, both orally and in writing, in a manner consistent with professional standards, which will reflect positively on the College.
- Ability to continuously demonstrate outstanding interpersonal skills in dealing with students, faculty, administration and staff. Ability to work effectively as a member of small staff where cooperation and teamwork are the rule.
- Proven proficiency in lighting, electrics, and rigging, with a working knowledge of basic analog and digital audio systems.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, communicate effectively, and provide excellent service to clients and collaborators. Strong organizational and multitasking skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays as event schedules require.
- Ability to be involved with several activities concurrently, to continually monitor their status, and to prioritize activities so that deadlines are met and overall effectiveness is maximized.

The role interacts daily with students, faculty, staff, guest artists, and the public—strong interpersonal skills and a service-oriented mindset are essential.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or five years of equivalent professional experience in technical theatre, live event production, or venue management.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Fluency within the ETC Eos ecosystem, lighting networks, Paradigm, and ETC Sensor 3.
- Competency in programming intelligent lighting fixtures.
- Proficiency in Vectorworks CAD Software.
- Dante Certification.
2+ years supervisory or managerial experience. Ability to operate in PC and MacOS environments.
Licenses or Certifications:Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required.
