Assistant Track and Field Coach - Sprints/Hurdles at InsideHigherEd
Job Description
Valparaiso University is seeking a dedicated and experienced Assistant Track and Field Coach specializing in Sprints and Hurdles. This position is responsible for the development and coaching of student-athletes in sprint and hurdle events, recruiting prospective student-athletes, and supporting the overall goals of the Track and Field program. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to the academic and athletic success of student-athletes, as well as to fostering a positive team culture.
Major Responsibilities:
- Design and implement training programs for 60m up to potentially 800m and hurdle events.Provide technical and tactical instruction during practices and competitions.Assist with team travel, meet planning, and event management.Identify and recruit prospective student-athletes who align with the university’s values and academic standards. Monitor academic performance and provide guidance to ensure student-athlete success.Assist with administrative duties as assigned by the Director of Track and Field.Maintain compliance with NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations.
 
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Valparaiso UniversityBachelor’s degree required.Prior coaching experience at the collegiate, high school, or club level in sprints and/or hurdles.Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
 
Other Qualifications:
- Preferred - Master's degree
 - Experience coaching at the NCAA Division I level
