Bread Baker at Copperleaf Bakery
Job Description
Baker: Bread Production
Copperleaf Bakery — Harlem, NYC (near Columbia University)
Copperleaf is a new, chef-driven bakery opening in Harlem, rooted in the idea of reimagining beloved bakery classics through a cultural lens that reflects our neighborhood. We use European techniques as a foundation, but our flavors, ingredients, and stories are inspired by NYC and the community around us — creating something familiar yet new.
We’re looking for someone who has experience with naturally fermented bread and bread doughs. This person is passionate about sourdough, starters and preferments as well as proper dough handling, and is excited to become an integral part of our hands-on bread program. This person will be focused on maintaining quality, consistency, and intention across all of our daily bread production. We are looking for people who are excited about their craft and are looking to bring positive energy and thoughtful creativity to this collaborative team. We will be milling grains in-house and incorporating freshly milled flours into our doughs, so curiosity and attention to detail are key.
The ideal candidate is:
- Passionate about naturally leavened and long-fermented breads
- Experienced with sourdough, bulk fermentation, and dough development
- Knowledgeable about mixing, shaping, and baking with precision and care
- Excited to experiment with grains, flavors, and fermentation methods
- Motivated to help establish a culture of learning, collaboration, and pride in product
If you’re excited by the idea of helping shape a new bakery from its beginnings — bringing intention, creativity, and integrity to every loaf — we’d love to meet you.
There will be two shifts: 4 am-12 pm (mix and prep), 8 am-4 pm (production)
Requirements:
- At least 1 year of professional bakery experience
- Flexible morning schedule
- Flexible on holidays
- Can lift 50lbs
Compensation: $20-24
