General Overview

Telemetry & Communications Systems Inc. (TCS) is a growing engineering company seeking a motivated Buyer. The Buyer is responsible for sourcing, procuring, and managing the flow of materials, components, and services necessary to meet the production and operational needs of the facility. This role requires strong organizational and negotiation skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage shifting priorities to ensure on-time delivery and optimal inventory levels.

This position is to be filled onsite in Chatsworth, CA. No employer visa sponsorship is available.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze Requests for Quotes (RFQs) and send RFQs and drawings (DWGs) to qualified vendors.
  • Generate and process Purchase Orders (POs) based on production and inventory needs.
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules to achieve cost-effective procurement.
  • Track current inventory levels, reorder points, and order quantities to support continuous production.
  • Follow up with suppliers to confirm orders, track shipments, and ensure on-time delivery.
  • Expedite shortages or past-due orders to minimize production delays.
  • Develop and maintain strong vendor relationships to ensure reliability and quality.
  • Coordinate with shipping carriers to schedule inbound deliveries and seek cost-saving opportunities in freight.
  • Collaborate with Accounts Payable to resolve invoice or PO discrepancies.
  • Work closely with Supervisors and Engineers to address material or quality issues as they arise.
  • Analyze short- and long-term production forecasts to maintain target inventory levels.
  • Ensure the ERP system (Costpoint preferred) is updated with the latest delivery dates and purchase order details.
  • Partner with operations and scheduling teams to ensure materials are available ahead of production needs.
  • Maintain accurate time tracking in Costpoint for project cost management.
  • Meet productivity and quality standards while maintaining an organized, efficient workspace.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management in support of department goals.

Qualifications
  • Education: High School diploma required; associate or bachelor's degree preferred (Supply Chain, Business, or related field).
  • Experience: 5+ years of purchasing, supply chain, or materials management experience in a preferred manufacturing environment.
  • Systems: Proficiency with ERP/MRP, accounting, or inventory systems; Costpoint experience strongly preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams).
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to perform cost, quantity, and delivery analysis, including discounts, percentages, and pricing calculations.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively across departments and with vendors.
  • Soft Skills: Organized, detail-oriented, professional, and able to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen. This position will be working directly on a contract with the U.S. Government which requires all employees performing these functions to be U.S. Citizens.

This position may require exposure to information, which is subject to US export control regulations, i.e., the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or the Export Administration Regulations (EAR). All applicants must be "U.S. persons" within the meaning of U.S. regulations.

Compensation
  • Salary Range: $70,000 - 80,000 annually (based on experience)
