Position OverviewThe KU School of Business is seeking a student services professional to join the Business Career Services (BCS) team to advise and assist KU undergraduate Business students with career development and job search through the design and delivery of targeted career initiatives. The Career Advisor position offers a dynamic blend of responsibilities including: career advising, course instruction and coordination of special projects.
This position provides career support individually and in groups to encourage successful internships, full-time employment, and lifelong career management skills. This individual will work in strategic partnership with internal members of the BCS team and relevant academic program teams. Key constituents include prospective and current undergraduate Business students, alumni, recruiting organizations, career services, faculty, and advisory board members. All members of the BCS team assist in driving connectivity between the marketplace and KU Business to serve the needs and goals of KU students. A successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, instructional ability, customer service commitment and be a resourceful team member. Candidates with unique experiences or non-traditional backgrounds are invited to apply, including retired professionals, corporate recruiters, educators, individuals re-entering the workforce, etc.
This is a full-time, benefits eligible, regular, 12-month professional staff position. However, modified appointment terms, including less than 12 months, will be considered depending on candidate. This position is designated as primarily on-campus during the academic year but has flexibility to work virtually or hybrid over breaks and summer, as approved. Occasional evenings and weekend work may occur with advanced notice. Travel for professional conferences, student trips and/or to serve as liaisons to the local, regional, and national workforce community is limited. Alternative and flexible work schedules will be evaluated as per KU policy and School guidelines.

Job Description30% - Individual Career Advising: Advise undergraduate business students on appropriate domestic and international career management and job search skills, including:
- Develop knowledge and familiarity with a broad range of business career functions and industries.
- Coordinate career resources for Business Career Services in collaboration with career services work group. This may include evaluation of vendor products.
- Coach students through self-assessment strategies.
- Maintain familiarity with and promote tools and resources to optimize students’ career success.
- Teach assigned sections of career planning courses, such as BUS 210, as part of the required professional development curriculum.
- Collaborate with the BCS advising team to ensure career programming aligns with course objectives and student learning outcomes.
- Support and guide assigned peer mentors to enhance student engagement and peer-to-peer learning.
- Assigned special projects may evolve throughout tenure within the role. Examples include execution of the School of Business Mentoring Program, Marketing & Promotion (newsletter and social media), Certificates & Ambassador Program, Internship & Experiential Learning process support, etc.
- Manage presentations and workshops associated with the preparation of students for the job market including resume writing, interviewing skills, networking, industry research, etc.
- Facilitate networking and career events involving participation from industry for various Business School majors, programs, and student organizations.
- Collaborate on career-related initiatives with B-School student organizations.
- Provide workshops and presentations to School of Business and campus student organizations.
- Serve as active BCS team member during high volume periods and annual career fairs.
- Actively works to build industry relations and career planning knowledge.
- Participate as active member of School of Business staff, university and professional community, including attend staff and faculty meetings as needed.
- Serve on school and university wide committees as requested.
- Complete other job-related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree plus three years of relevant experience or Master’s with a minimum of one year of experience.
- Excellent written communication skills as demonstrated by application materials.
- Previous experience in a teaching, training or leadership role.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment, as demonstrated by application materials.
- Strong understanding of business career paths and industries commonly pursued business graduates, as demonstrated by application materials.
- Experience with career management strategies and internship/job search processes.
- Familiarity with the Kansas City area and regional job market/economy.
- Experience cultivating professional networks or mentoring others, whether in corporate, educational, or community settings.
