Position Title: Cashier

Department: Cash Lanes

Reports To: Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager

Location: Supermercado Mexico, Division Ave

Employment Type: Full-Time - Hourly


Job Summary

The Cashier is responsible for providing excellent customer service through accurate and efficient handling of transactions, maintaining cleanliness in assigned areas, and supporting the overall operations of the branch. This role ensures the proper management of cash, merchandise, and customer inquiries.


Key Responsibilities

Customer Service:

  • Provide friendly and professional service to customers at checkout.
  • Handle product returns and verify the application of discounts in the collection system.

Operations:

  • Open the cash register and verify the starting balance.
  • Scan and collect payments for goods accurately and efficiently.
  • Update exchange rates for money transfers as required.
  • Prepare end-of-shift reports and deliver the cash register.
  • Handle utility payments, money transfers, and check cashing (at applicable branches).
  • Monitor and manage money order slips and phone recharges.
  • Place price labels on shelves and update fruit and vegetable prices.
  • Verify the availability of tortillas if warehouse personnel are unavailable.
  • Prepare daily reports in Excel.

Merchandising and Maintenance:

  • Arrange and front goods on shelves.
  • Receive bread and ensure its proper display.
  • Assist in cleaning counters, displays, refrigerators, and assigned areas (stairs, bathrooms, etc.) if cleaning personnel are unavailable.
  • Collect shopping carts and baskets from the store premises.

Store Support:

  • Support branch closure processes, including securing the store.
  • Assist in inventory control and monitoring as needed.


Requirements:

Qualifications and Skills

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience:

  • Previous cashier or retail experience is a plus but not mandatory.

Knowledge:

  • Basic computing skills.
  • Mathematics for cash handling and transactions.
  • Familiarity with merchandise handling and retail services.

Skills:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills in Spanish and English.
  • Excellent customer service and support abilities.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently under pressure.
  • Effective teamwork and collaboration.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Bilingual is preferred but not required.
