Founded by Dr. Louis Duhring in 1874, Penn Dermatology is the nation's first department of dermatology and has a rich tradition of excellence. Since its founding, Penn Dermatology has remained at the forefront of academic medicine, consistently ranking among the nation's best dermatology departments for its groundbreaking clinical and basic science research, exemplary patient care, and outstanding education and training programs. The Department has systematically built programs that have become deeply integrated into the fabric of Penn Medicine, the University, and the community. In addition to excellence in its tripartite mission, the Department of Dermatology has substantive ties to multiple centers, institutes, departments and other schools on campus. Penn Dermatology is closely aligned with the Skin Biology and Diseases Resource-based Center (SBDRC), Center for DermatoEpidemiology and Translation (CDET), Dermatology Clinical Effectiveness Research Network (DCERN) and the Center for Clinical Sciences in Dermatology (CCSD).
