Brief Statement of DutiesBrief Statement of Duties: The Department of Chemistry at Northern Michigan University is seeking an individual specializing in Physical Chemistry to fill a campus-based, tenure track position starting in the Fall of 2026 at the rank of Assistant Professor. Teaching responsibilities will include two physical chemistry courses with laboratories: quantum mechanics (CH341) and thermodynamics and kinetics (CH342), as well as other courses based on departmental needs and the candidate’s expertise. It is expected that the successful candidate will establish an active research program that involves undergraduate students and will also contribute to Departmental and University service activities. A Ph.D. in chemistry or a closely related field is required, and postdoctoral and prior teaching experience is strongly preferred. This is a campus based position. This position is not currently available for sponsorship.
The Department of Chemistry has 20 full-time faculty and offers undergraduate degrees in ACS-certified Chemistry, Biochemistry, Forensic Biochemistry, and Medicinal Plant Chemistry. Required Specialized Training/Certifications:
Required Minimum Work Experience: Instruction at the collegiate level is required. Teaching experience can be in the lecture, recitation or laboratory setting.
