Chief, Division of Infectious Diseases

Sidney Kimmel Medical College, Thomas Jefferson University – Philadelphia, PA

Thomas Jefferson University seeks a collaborative and visionary physician leader to serve as Division Chief of Infectious Diseases at Sidney Kimmel Medical College (SKMC). Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Medicine, the Chief will advance excellence in clinical care, research, and education across Jefferson Health. The Division includes 14 full-time faculty and 4 fellows, providing ID services at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience, and Methodist Hospital.

Role Overview

The Chief will provide strategic direction for the Division’s clinical, research, and educational programs, fostering innovation, collaboration, and academic distinction aligned with SKMC and Jefferson Health’s mission.

Key Responsibilities

Education & Training

  • Support fellowship, residency, and medical student education programs.
  • Oversee faculty teaching assignments and ensure learner-centered education.
  • Ensure compliance with LCME and ACGME accreditation standards.

Research

  • Expand the Division’s research enterprise and clinical trial opportunities.
  • Promote translational collaborations across SKMC and Jefferson’s research centers.
  • Mentor trainees and early-career faculty and support extramural funding.

People & Culture

  • Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and supportive department culture.
  • Recruit, retain, and develop outstanding faculty and staff.
  • Conduct performance reviews and provide mentorship and guidance.
  • Promote equity in hiring, promotion, and compensation.

Financial & Operational Leadership

  • Oversee budgets and ensure fiscal sustainability.
  • Align operational decisions with strategic priorities.
  • Maintain sound management practices and accountability.

Qualifications

  • MD, DO, or MD/PhD with board certification in Infectious Diseases and Pennsylvania licensure eligibility.
  • Nationally recognized physician-scientist or clinician-educator with a record of extramural funding.
  • Proven leadership experience in academic medicine (Division Chief, Associate Chief, or senior faculty).
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Experience managing complex budgets and resources.
