Job Description

The Carilion Clinic invites applications and nominations for the next System Chief of Gastroenterology. This physician executive will be responsible for leading clinical, academic, and research operations for gastroenterology and hepatology across all Carilion Clinic hospitals, clinics, and facilities in Roanoke, Virginia. Reporting to the Chair of Medicine, the Chief of Gastroenterology will oversee efforts such as clinical operations, programmatic development, physician recruitment, educational growth, and research expansion. The Chief has responsibility for clinical and academic services across the continuum of care, including 5 outpatient locations, 2 acute care hospitals, and 6 endoscopy suites - as well as a robust fellowship program. The ideal candidate is a dynamic, respected clinician with strong leadership and operational skills who is comfortable navigating complex systems, building strategic plans, and fostering a collaborative and accountable culture. The Section Chief will be someone with a passion for program building, physician recruitment and development, innovation, and clinical excellence and will provide an environment conducive to advancing the organization s missions. The Chief will be eligible for an academic appointment at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine. Carilion is a $2.6 billion, leading not for profit health system based in Roanoke, Virginia.
