Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

Founded in 1950, our Department of Maternal and Child Health is one of the world’s leading academic departments for research, teaching and practice. We are dedicated to improving the health of women, children and families – domestically and globally. Our teaching program provides students with broad exposure to maternal and child health population needs and priorities, as well as with the skills to become leaders of tomorrow. Currently the department has 31 faculty members, 20 of whom have primary appointments in Maternal and Child Health (MCH). Complementing these faculty are four emeritus members, and more than 65 adjunct faculty, many of whom hold leadership positions in MCH research and practice settings. Given the interdisciplinary nature of our department, faculty and staff research interests and activities span the full array of issues and areas of focus for the maternal and child health population. Our initiatives are designed to create new knowledge and directly improve the health of this population.

Position Summary:

The NC Child Care Health Consultant will be responsible for the following:

Academy Development and Delivery
* Schedule and lead three UNC-CH/Child Care Academies across North Carolina. Academies will primarily be conducted virtually with one in-person day per academy.
* Develop and deliver a training curriculum that meets or exceeds the NC Division of Child Development and Early Education (DCDEE) Child Care rules and includes:
o CPR/First Aid (trainers provided by the NC Resource Center)
o Child Care Development Fund Health and Safety trainings
o ITS-SIDS
o Playground Safety
o Child Maltreatment Response
o ITERS-3 and ECERS-3 Overview
o NC Foundations for Early Learning and Development
o NC Early Childhood Credential and/or Child Development Associate credentialing
o DHHS Criminal Background Check process

Participant Enrollment and Support
* Develop and manage an application and enrollment process.
* Recruit students and promote academies.
* Track participant attendance and monitor progress.

Monitoring, Evaluation & Sustainability
* Develop an evaluation plan.
* Use results to assess strengths, needs, and strengthen the program.

Reporting
* Participate in monthly status report calls DCDEE
* Develop quarterly program reports to be submitted: 2/10/2025, 5/10/2026, 8/10/2026

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Must be an active Child Care Health Consultant with a degree in public health, nursing, or related field.
