Responsibilities

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB

The CIRCULATION SERVICE EVENING SUPERVISOR will be responsible for managing all the daily circulation activities in the evenings which includes routine check of the library facility, enforcing library policies, assisting in maintaining the security of library resources, and supervising student workers, and library assistants. The CIRCULATION SERVICE EVENING SUPERVISOR will also assist in serving on committees, helping with marketing the library, reporting any library repairs or maintenance services while performing customer service duties and other assigned library duties. Reports to the Director of Library Services.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Manage the Center of Information Desk and library services in the evenings.
  • Manage circulation duties including reserves, interlibrary loans, fines and fees, and other material management.
  • Perform the acquisition process for new books, audio-visual materials, and standing orders for the library by conducting searches in bibliographic databases, preparing requisitions, and receiving purchase order numbers.
  • Complete physical processing of new books, gift books, and media materials (i.e., labeling, stripping, stamping, and applying barcodes). Receive and process incoming acquisitions mail and shipments to verify the accuracy of order fulfillment. Prepare and maintain records relative to book acquisition activities.
  • Catalog and sort books, publications, and other items according to established procedure and return them to shelves, files, or other designated storage areas.
  • Assist with training and supervising library assistants, student workers, and interns.
  • Compile and maintain records and statistics relating to circulation, materials, equipment, and other statistics relative to evening services.
  • Assist users in finding general reference resources and using library computers and printers.
  • Maintain online chat/messaging, and email by answering or filtering questions to the library staff.
  • Create displays, assists librarians, as needed, with Library tours, and classes.
  • Assist in library outreach services and promotions.
  • Enforce and assist users in understanding library policies and procedures.
  • Perform closing duties such as securing and locking up the library and door counts.
  • Qualifications

    A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required with at least 2 years experience directly related to the primary duties of the position. Candidate must have knowledge and understanding in providing library services or customer services in a diverse environment. Candidate must have good technology skills, writing skills, and communication skills. Prefer a candidate who has worked with college students, is familiar with library services and procedures, and has web design experience. Managerial experience is required. Will consider candidates with a combination of work experience and education.
