Job Summary:

The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program in the College of Health at Cleveland State University is seeking to fill a nine-month, tenure-track Clinical Assistant Professor position to begin August 17, 2026.

Primary Duties for the position include teaching DPT courses; assisting with Clinical Education; being involved in ongoing curriculum development/evaluation; mentoring/advising students; and providing academic, professional, and/or community service. In addition, Clinical Assistant Professors are expected to contribute to research. This is an on-campus position.

Accredited since 1976, the Physical Therapy Department is a part of the College of Health. The DPT Program actively engages students in the educational process and provides an energetic, collegial, and supportive academic environment within the University and the dynamic Cleveland biomedical community. Cleveland State University is an urban campus serving racially, culturally, and economically diverse students.

The College of Health encompasses the following academic units, that were previously part of other university colleges or were standalone departments: Communication Sciences and Disorders, Exercise Science/Community Health, Health Sciences/Public Health, Music Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, School of Nursing and School of Social Work.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate in physical therapy (DPT) by June 1, 2026;
  • Physical therapist with eligibility for Ohio PT licensure;
  • Minimum of three years of clinical physical therapy practice experience;
  • Ability to teach a variety of core courses in the DPT Program;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to collaborate and work on teams; and
  • Evidence of teaching capability and capability to conduct research and scholarship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in teaching, especially in higher education and/or in physical therapy (e.g. full university course coordination, teaching in an accredited DPT program, graduate level teaching, and other teaching such as continuing education and guest lectures);
  • Experience integrating technology into teaching;
  • APTA board-certified clinical specialist and/or graduate of clinical residency or fellowship training program;
  • Professional, academic, and/or community service and/or leadership (e.g. active involvement in professional/community organizations, evidence of committee work, community volunteer in health-related activities, advocacy efforts, etc.);
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal/communication skills, including the ability to collaborate and work on teams; and
  • Evidence of research, including a record of presentations, publications, and successful grant activity.
