Job Description
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education at the University of Houston seeks to fill a promotion-eligible (non-tenure track) Clinical Assistant Professor position in Social Studies/Social Education to serve our teacher preparation, master’s, and doctoral programs. The Department offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate academic programs in multiple areas of specialization. We welcome candidates whose experience in teaching and service demonstrates our commitment to excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation in educational settings.
Qualifications: Applicants must have a doctorate focused on social studies education/social education or a related field. The successful candidate must demonstrate effective teaching ability and service to the profession. While a breadth of expertise will be considered, particular focus will be placed on applicants whose work (a) informs evidence-based effective social studies/social education practices for in K-12 settings; (b) advances social studies education initiatives across teacher education programs, school, family, and community networks; and/or (c) demonstrates a record of secondary social studies teaching experience.
Responsibilities: Primary teaching responsibilities include expert teaching through face-to-face, online, or hybrid delivery of courses in the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs. While research is not a formal requirement for Clinical positions, faculty are encouraged to pursue scholarly inquiry in social education that reflects their values, interests, and commitments to equity and civic engagement. The institution supports those who wish to seek external funding, publish in high-impact venues, and share their work with national and international audiences. Scholarship that bridges theory and practice, amplifies diverse perspectives, and contributes to inclusive educational futures is especially welcomed. A successful candidate will also participate in course and program development, community outreach activities, and service to the Department, College, University, and profession.
Appointment: This is a nine-month appointment. Review of candidates will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. The anticipated start date is Fall 2026. Salary will be commensurate with the applicant’s qualifications and experience and will include benefits.
