Towson University:

Position: 
The College of Education invites applications for a tenure-track, 9-month Assistant Professor position in the Department of Elementary Education with three years of PreK-12 grade teaching experience in the public schools. Faculty with expertise in elementary education curriculum and instruction with demonstrated knowledge and experience supporting multilingual learners and/or urban schools are encouraged to apply. Preferred begin date is August 2026. 

Qualifications: 
Applicants should have a doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction or an education-related field. ABD applications will be considered, but the appointment will be at the instructor rank, and all degree requirements must be completed by August 1, 2026. Candidates should have a strong commitment to teaching and working with students and novice teachers. Expertise in elementary education curriculum and instruction with demonstrated knowledge and experience supporting multilingual learners and/or urban schools, a promise of high-quality research, the ability to work in a collaborative manner with colleagues, and commitment to working across programs, disciplines, and cultures to strengthen the field. 

Responsibilities: 
Primary responsibilities include: (1) Teaching and Supervising: research-active instructors teach/supervise 6 course units (equivalent to 18 credits) over a 9-month academic year in our student-focused programs, providing high-quality instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels in a variety of courses, (2) Scholarship: development/continuation of a focused area of research that includes peer-reviewed publications, professional presentations, grant funding, and involvement in scholarly projects with students; and (3) Service: active service participation at the department, college, university, community, and professional levels. 

The Department: 
The Department of Elementary Education currently has 28 full-time faculty members and offers three programs. The programs include: one undergraduate elementary education program and three graduate programs (M.Ed. in Reading Education, M.Ed. in Elementary Education, and M.A.T. in Elementary Education). The Department of Elementary Education also offers a minor in Linguistic Diversity and a Teaching English Learners Graduate Certificate. The College of Education is the longest-standing, largest, and preeminent producer of teachers in Maryland and is nationally recognized as a leader in educator preparation.

Salary and Benefits: Targeted salary range is $70,000, commensurate with experience.
