Position:
The College of Fine Arts and Communication invites applications for a tenure-track, 9-month Assistant Professor position in the Electronic Media and Film Department. Preferred start date August 2026.

Qualifications:
Master of Fine Arts or doctorate degree in film and media production, communications media production, or related field received by June 2026. EMF seeks candidates with a vision for the future of media at the intersections of: live-streaming, internet content creation, live multi-camera studio production, technical direction for television and broadcast, corporate video, live events production, and media production. Expertise in the Adobe Creative Suite, DaVinci Resolve, Avid Media Composer, or equivalent, and the usage of live studio production systems such as Ross, Tricaster, or equivalent is required. Demonstrated success in teaching or demonstrated potential to teach media production and broadcast studio courses at the undergraduate level is required. A demonstrated record of related scholarship/artistic research/professional activity is required. Applicants with additional specialties in post-production, color correction, video engineering, or sports production are encouraged to apply. 

Responsibilities:
Research-active faculty teach 6 classes over a 9-month academic year (3 per semester) with undergraduate class size averaging 20 students per class. Undergraduate teaching is expected to include intermediate and advanced courses focused on media production for streaming/broadcast, live events, and corporate/community video, utilizing our production studios. There may be opportunities to develop new courses in the candidate’s area of expertise and interest. Undergraduate advising is part of the position’s teaching responsibilities. Scholarly/artistic research productivity and service to the department, college, and university are expected. Service responsibilities will include leadership of student organizations that produce media content.

The Department:
The Department of Electronic Media & Film (http://www.towson.edu/emf) is the largest and most comprehensive media and film department in Maryland. EMF provides a rigorous media arts education in which students learn to tell their own stories, hone their craft, and make meaningful media. EMF students choose from one of three concentrations: Film/Video/Digital Media, Radio/Audio, and Film and Media Studies. Within these concentrations, our 400+ EMF majors and minors develop skills in writing, media history and criticism, and professional media production for narrative, documentary, experimental, and new media forms. Towson University’s Electronic Media & Film department is made up of 15 full-time, over 20 part-time faculty, and 5 staff. EMF is about to move into the newly renovated and reconstructed Smith Hall which will include state-of-the-art studios, labs, production facilities, classrooms, and a cinema theatre.

•    an unofficial copy of graduate transcripts (official transcripts are required prior to hire)  
•    a teaching effectiveness portfolio that includes your teaching philosophy and materials that demonstrate your teaching effectiveness or your potential for teaching effectiveness. (ex. student or peer evaluations of college courses taught, assessments or feedback on graduate teaching assistantships, assessments of workshops or mentorships you have led, etc.)
•    a portfolio/reel (submitted as a PDF with descriptions and URLs of media projects) demonstrating your creative/scholarly work

Salary and Benefits:
Targeted salary range: $70,000 - $72,000 commensurate with experience.
