This role will oversee the full commissioning lifecycle of complex systems including power distribution, HVAC systems, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), backup generators, mechanical cooling systems, and medium-voltage switchgear.

The Commissioning Director will manage multidisciplinary teams, provide technical oversight, and serve as the key liaison between clients, contractors, and project stakeholders. This role requires a hands-on leader with deep domain knowledge in MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) systems for high-availability environments such as data centers.

Job Duties:

  • Lead, manage, and mentor the commissioning team across multiple disciplines (mechanical and electrical).
  • Develop and oversee comprehensive commissioning plans, scripts, and procedures.
  • Validate mechanical and electrical equipment installations and system integration.
  • Perform site observations and develop detailed functional test plans.
  • Execute and witness commissioning tests in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all commissioning activities, maintaining effective communication with clients, contractors, and vendors.
  • Coordinate with design, construction, and operations teams to ensure commissioning success.
  • Review and analyze system design documents, submittals, and performance data.
  • Generate high-quality technical reports, deficiency logs, and final commissioning documentation.
  • Ensure safety, quality, and adherence to project timelines and budgets throughout all commissioning phases.
  • Promote continuous improvement of commissioning processes and team capabilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in commissioning and startup of mechanical and/or electrical systems, with a strong emphasis on data centers, mission-critical environments, or large-scale infrastructure.
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering preferred. Equivalent military training, associate degree, or hands-on field experience will be considered.
  • In-depth knowledge of HVAC systems, CRAC units, chillers, boilers, pumps, power distribution, UPS, ATS, generators, and related infrastructure.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, especially under dynamic or ambiguous field conditions.
  • Familiarity with mechanical and electrical codes (e.g., NEC, ASHRAE standards, NFPA, IEEE, etc.).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized and capable of managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite; experience with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and commissioning management software is a plus.
  • Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP), CxA, or equivalent certification preferred.

Benefits:

All full-time employees receive a comprehensive benefit package that includes, but is not limited to, medical, dental, and vision insurance with 100% of medical premiums covered by the employer, short and long-term disability insurance, life insurance, a 401k plan, vacation time, paid holidays off, and yearly performance-based bonus eligibility.
