Job Description As our client continues to scale, they're seeking an experienced Controller to lead accounting and finance operations while serving as a strategic business partner to the VP of Finance. This is a pivotal leadership role where you'll oversee daily accounting functions, financial reporting, and technical accounting while building and mentoring a high-performing finance team. You'll be instrumental in implementing efficient processes, optimizing systems, and ensuring financial accuracy as the organization grows. The ideal candidate is an independent worker who thrives in a collaborative environment, brings strong technical expertise, and can balance strategic thinking with meticulous attention to operational details. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams and report directly to the VP of Finance, managing a team of three dedicated finance professionals. Duties and Responsibilities Lead and mentor a team of finance professionals including an Accounting Manager, Senior Bookkeeper, and Staff Accountant/Payroll Specialist Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes with comprehensive reporting to senior leadership Partner with the VP of Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning initiatives Manage AR/AP functions, implement best practices for collections and vendor payments, and monitor aging reports Handle daily cash positioning, cash flow forecasting, and optimize treasury operations Ensure GAAP compliance, research complex accounting issues, and oversee consolidation accounting Oversee revenue recognition for professional services engagements and manage audit relationships Leverage NetSuite to optimize financial processes, reporting capabilities, and implement process improvements Monitor banking relationships, credit facilities, and ensure compliance with debt covenants Develop and implement controls and procedures to enhance accuracy and efficiency across finance operations Required Experience/Skills Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field CPA certification required (or actively pursuing) 7+ years of progressive accounting experience with at least 3 years in a supervisory role Strong technical accounting knowledge and thorough understanding of GAAP principles Experience in professional services, consulting, or project-based businesses Proven track record managing month-end close and financial reporting processes Excellent leadership and team management capabilities Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders Strategic thinking combined with meticulous attention to detail Adaptability to work effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment Nice-to-Haves NetSuite experience (strongly preferred) Big Four or national public accounting firm background Experience with revenue recognition for professional services (ASC 606) Project accounting or job costing experience Prior Controller or Assistant Controller experience Track record of implementing or improving financial systems and processes Experience collaborating across departments as a trusted business advisor Education Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required. CPA certification required (or actively pursuing).
