Overview:
This position involves managing the electrical and automation aspects of large capital projects, supporting the overall execution of plant engineering deliverables. The engineer will play a key role in the design, procurement, installation, and commissioning phases of various industrial plant systems. In addition to technical expertise, the individual will help with project management tasks, including scheduling, cost estimation, and ensuring the efficient and timely completion of projects. The role requires close collaboration with internal engineering teams, external contractors, and equipment suppliers to ensure all systems meet specifications, safety standards, and project objectives. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex, multi-disciplinary projects, primarily focused on prep, tire building, curing, and after-cure process areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the electrical and automation design for assigned projects, ensuring all technical specifications are met.
- Manage project timelines, estimates, and resource allocation throughout the project lifecycle, from design through to commissioning.
- Provide support and training to plant maintenance teams on new automation systems, ensuring a smooth handover of equipment.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external contractors to achieve project goals and ensure alignment across all phases of the project.
- Lead the procurement process, including the preparation of specifications for RFQs, managing purchase orders, and tracking supplier progress.
- Work closely with receiving plants to manage equipment installation, start-up, and customer acceptance, ensuring compliance with safety and ergonomic risk assessments.
- Facilitate communication across project teams, providing regular updates and resolving any issues that may arise during project execution.
Must-Have Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 2-4 years of experience in engineering, particularly in industrial or manufacturing environments.
- Proficiency in electrical design and automation programming using standard CAD tools.
- Experience with Rockwell PLC programming, including GRAFCET, Ladder Logic, and Structured Text.
- Solid understanding of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and Motion Control technologies.
- Experience with HMI systems, such as PanelView and FactoryTalkView ME Studio.
- Familiarity with controls systems network interfaces and communication protocols, including Data-Highway+, ControlNet, and Ethernet.
Preferred Skills (Plusses):
- Advanced experience with Siemens PLC programming.
- Knowledge of VFDs and Motion Control systems, particularly with Control Techniques, SEW MOVIMOT, or Rockwell equipment.
- Familiarity with vision systems for defect detection and width measurement applications, such as Cognex, Keyence, Adept, or Gocator.
- Experience working with robotic systems, particularly with Fanuc or ABB.
- Experience in project leadership or management.
- Willingness to travel, including occasional domestic and international trips (up to 5%).
