Bankruptcy Litigation Associate – New York

Direct Counsel is representing an Am Law 100 firm seeking a Bankruptcy Litigation Associate to join its premier Restructuring & Insolvency practice in New York. This group represents debtors, official and ad hoc creditors’ committees, lenders, asset purchasers, and other key stakeholders in complex Chapter 11 and restructuring litigation, including cross-border proceedings.

This is an opportunity to work with a nationally recognized team on sophisticated bankruptcy matters involving major corporate restructurings, contested matters, and high-stakes adversary proceedings.


Key Responsibilities
  • Represent clients in litigation arising from Chapter 11 and restructuring situations, including cross-border disputes.

  • Present and argue contested matters in court, demonstrating strong advocacy and case strategy.

  • Draft a wide range of pleadings, including complaints, answers, dispositive motions, evidentiary motions, and discovery materials.

  • Manage discovery and e-discovery processes, including witness interviews, depositions, and document review.

  • Conduct claims reconciliation and objection proceedings.

  • Participate in settlement negotiations and mediations.

  • Support all aspects of trial preparation and courtroom advocacy.


Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of bankruptcy and restructuring litigation experience, including contested matters and adversary proceedings in Chapter 11 cases.

  • Must be admitted to the New York Bar and in good standing.

  • Strong knowledge of the Bankruptcy Code, Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure, Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, and Federal Rules of Evidence.

  • Exceptional oral advocacy, writing, and analytical skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
