We provide paid training, strong benefits, and clear advancement pathways in public safety.*Employment Benefits** Comprehensive *medical, dental, vision* + mental health coverage* *Sick & Vacation leave*; *Paid State Holidays* (annually designated)* *Work-Life Balance* programs (parental, military, jury, funeral leave)* *Fitness centers* in select locations; STAR *employee discounts** *Retirement* and *deferred compensation* programs*Role Summary*Entry-level *Correctional Officer* responsible for direct supervision of adult inmates during routine shifts, resolving issues, enforcing rules, and *responding to emergencies* to maintain a *safe, secure environment* for staff, inmates, and visitors.*Key Responsibilities** *Supervise inmates* in living units, dining, classrooms, work sites, programs, hospital, kitchen, and bathing areas* *Monitor segregation units* (punitive, protective, administrative) and *work details* (inside/outside)* Maintain *discipline, safety, and control*; enforce rules and sanctions consistently* Conduct *counts, searches, and security checks* to deter contraband and escape risks* Observe, document, and *report behavior changes/incidents* promptly* Follow emergency procedures; *respond, de-escalate, and restrain* when warranted* Complete accurate *incident and shift reports*; communicate clearly with supervisors and team members*Minimum Qualifications** *High School Diploma/GED** *Valid driver's license** *18+ years* of age* No *felony convictions*; no *misdemeanor domestic battery* as an adult (unless committed before July 1, 1997 and expunged)* Ability to *pass drug screening* approved by the Division of Personnel Services*Preferred Qualifications** KDOC *Corrections Officer Certification* (issued upon completion of Basic Training; renewed annually)* Current *CPR* certification (maintained via in-service training)* Annual *weapons qualification** Demonstrated ability to *de-escalate conflict*, use *appropriate physical force*, and *work effectively* with diverse individuals* Familiarity with *adult multi-security correctional operations* and supervision practices*Post-Offer, Pre-Employment Requirements** *Background check* and *positive references** Submission of all required application documents* *Kansas Tax Clearance* within 10 days of conditional offer* *Drug screen* and *physical**Equal Employment Opportunity*The State of Kansas is an *Equal Opportunity Employer* committed to *diversity, equity, and inclusion*.
