Pay Range Information:Chapman University is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this position. This range takes into account a variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as internal equity and other internal factors. The anticipated pay range is not a promise of a particular wage.
Job Description Summary:This is an ongoing assignment on an as needed basis scheduled to work less then 19 hours a week at the Sandi Simon Center for Dance, 350 N. Cypress St, Orange, CA 92866.
Responsibilities:- Play musical instrument as soloist or as a member of musical group to accompany dance students and faculty during classes, rehearsals and performances and concerts.
 
- Experience accompanying dance classes (ballet, modern, and/or jazz)
 - Exceptional piano skills with proficiency in sight-reading, improvisation, and playing in various styles and genres
 - Strong understanding of musical elements as they relate to movement (tempo, rhythm, phrasing, dynamics)
 - Excellent communication and collaborative skills
 - Ability to take direction and adapt quickly to changing needs within a class
 - Reliable, punctual, and professional work ethic
 
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience playing other instruments applicable to dance accompaniment
 - Knowledge of percussion techniques to support modern and world dance forms.
 - Previous work in a university dance department or professional dance company
