LocationOur West Campus is located at 2400 Gillionville Road, Albany, GA 31707. Our East Campus is located at 504 College Drive, Albany, GA 31705. The Human Resources office for both campuses is located on the West Campus in Building K, Suite 111.
Job SummaryThe Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences (CoAS) serves as the academic, fiscal, and administrative officer of the College.This role reports to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. The College of Arts & Sciences (CoAS) serves as southwest Georgia's citadel for creative a critical thinkers, scholastic explorers, and academic and artistic practitioners. The Dean is expected to provide strong leadership for the faculty in all academic matters and champion the important roles of the College in regional educational and economic development. The CoAS plays a vital role by providing the majority of the core curriculum offerings for all undergraduate degree programs of the University. The Dean works collaboratively with other Deans and institutional stakeholders to advance the mission and vision of the University.

ResponsibilitiesLeadership, Vision, and Advocacy
- Serves as a strong internal and external advocate for the academic and public mission of the College, its faculty, and its students.
- Articulates the College's vision, qualities, and distinctiveness as its principal advocate and spokesperson within the University community and to national and international external constituencies.
- Articulates and facilitates a long-term vision for the college in support of the University's mission, vision, and values.
- Sets priorities and sustains an environment of academic excellence.
- Maintains his/her professional activities in the areas of teaching, research, professional development, student success, and service.
Academic and Program Management
- Responsible for all aspects of curriculum planning and development.
- Facilitate programming, curriculum development and assessment of learning.
- Facilitates program development, building on traditional strengths, developing cutting-edge specialties within existing disciplines, and promoting global education.
- Provides leadership for initiatives such as the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP).
- Engages in collaborative decision-making processes with all stakeholders, particularly faculty driven decisions in the context of shared governance.
Fiscal and Administrative Management
- Manages the fiscal resource of the College.
- Responsible for budgeting and budget administration.
- Ensures effective management of financial resources, including budget planning and management, and the ability to prioritize college resources.
- Participates in the formulation, evaluation, and administration of college policies.
- The position has fiscal responsibility, requiring the ability to approve budgets within the unit/department.
Faculty and Staff Development
- Oversees faculty and staff development and evaluation.
- Supports faculty, including ensuring quality faculty hiring, faculty overload, and release time for scholarly activities.
- Ensures that policies related to hiring, overloads, and reassignment/release time are followed, including timeliness of submission documents.
External Relations, Research, and Fundraising:
- Responsible for generating external funding.
- Identifies sources and develops plans for attracting external financial resources for the College's scholarly and programmatic goals.
- Builds on the College's strengths in research and scholarly accomplishment by faculty and students.
- Builds and maintains close relationships with alumni and the community.
Student Enrollment and Success:
- Provides leadership in ensuring that the college meets its goals of recruitment, retention, progression to degree and on-time graduation of students enrolled in majors within the College.
- Works collaboratively with the Enrollment Management team to promote recruitment and retention of students.
- Ensure that course schedules each semester align with student progression patterns and optimal use of space.
- Provides necessary support to faculty to ensure timely submission of student performance information/data (e.g., grades) and the use of advising and early alert tools.
- Collaborate with Liaisons to ensure optimal delivery of courses that meet local and regional needs.
- An earned doctorate degree from an accredited university in an academic area of the College.
- A minimum of five years of administrative experience at the level of Chair or higher in an institution of higher education.
- An exemplary record of teaching and scholarship sufficient to qualify for appointment at the rank of Full Professor in one of the departments in the College.
- Experience with program and institutional accreditation.
- More than 8 years of relevant work experience in Higher Education Administration is preferred.
- Academic Leadership experience at an HBCU.

- Demonstrated experience with academic planning, including program development and innovation, strategic planning, enrollment, and financial management.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to manage a complex academic organization.
- A thorough understanding of budgets and finances and a demonstrated ability to manage budgets, particularly in times of economic restraint.
- Demonstrated experience in shared governance.
Skills
- Skilled in effective communication, orally and written, including public speaking.
Abilities
- Ability to demonstrate effective fiscal management and prioritize resources.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail and deadlines.
