Dental Professional - SP26 Dental Professional - SP26 The College of DuPage is a comprehensive community college located 27 miles west of downtown Chicago, vitally connected to our local area for over 50 years. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Provide supervision, guidance instruction and consultation to dental hygiene students in regards to treatment of patients in the dental hygiene clinic. Plan for, administer and monitor pain control for certified faculty hygiene faculty, students and patients. Review ALL patient medical histories, consult with the patient and/or student and make appropriate recommendations and/or medical/dental referrals as indicated. All patients MUST be sent out for a medical consult if the patient indicates YES for the following: TB - if patient is currently being treated and/or patient does not have proof of successful completion of treatment for TB either from the patient's medical doctor and/or local Public Health Department The clinical dentist MUST complete the medical consult(s) (students are not to complete however student involvement is encouraged) sign and give to the patient explaining reason for consult before patient is dismissed from the clinic Please see COD Dental Hygiene Policy and Procedure Manual for BP guidelines, pre-medication guidelines (also posted above desk in clinic) Patients in need of pre-medication obtain the script for pre-medication from patients medical doctor When prescribing Peridex (dispensed through dental hygiene clinic) to clinic patient(s) please complete a prescription and place inpatient(s) chart Make appropriate medical/dental referrals as indicated per patient(s) medical/dental history Consult with dental hygiene faculty and dental hygiene students if pain control therapy is needed. Monitor certified dental hygiene faculty and/or certified dental hygiene student(s) in appropriate administration of local anesthesia to clinic patients. Monitor needs and safety of COD Dental Hygiene Clinical Patients and Students. Review and evaluate dentition chartings, extra and intra-oral screenings, marginations, sealants and study models. Clinical dentist signature is required on student(s) daily grade forms for all of the above procedures. Supervise exposure and interpretation radiographs Clinical dentist must sign radiograph prescription prior to patient exposure Clinic dentist must approve and sign radiograph log (see Clinic Manager) Clinic dentist must review exposed and processed radiographs once radiographs are mounted correctly to include accurate documentation (patient name, clinic dentist name, student name, and date) Qualifications: Education A Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree.
