Job DescriptionProvide instruction to students in a variety of diesel technology courses. The classes could be at the associate or bachelor's degree level dependent on level of expertise and education. Course content may include basic shop skills, welding/fabrication, hydraulics, basic AC/DC electrical, power transmission, chassis, regulatory guidelines, failure analysis, fluid analysis, power generation, preventative maintenance, engines, industrial safety, and commercial drivers license.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesCreate instructional materials and deliver instruction in content and skills areas aligned with industry needs and best practices. Continually improve student learning through assessment. Adapt instruction practices to improve student learning. Participate in program advisory board meetings, serve on campus committees, advise students and be available to students outside of instructional time, and attend meetings as needed.
QualificationsSix years of related work experience in diesel technology field OR
two-year degree in a related industrial technology field AND four years of work experience OR
four-year degree related to industrial field AND two years of work experience.
Preferred Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in related field
- Welding knowledge and experience or certifications
- Possess a current class A commercial Drivers License
- Experience teaching or training in laboratory and classroom settings
- Managerial experience in industry
- Demonstrate ability in program/curriculum development and assessment
- Demonstrated ability to serve the needs of students who represent a broad spectrum of ages, abilities, ethnicity, education, and cultural backgrounds
- Demonstrated ability to advise students
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with peers
- Demonstrated ability to utilize current technology for course set up and to communicate with students
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of: Diesel technology, establishing and maintaining a safe work and shop environment in the diesel industry, developing information for the purposes of teaching others
Skills in: communicating complex tasks to students with no prior experience or knowledge, assessing work completed for strengths and providing feedback on errors, problem solving, fixing, and maintaining diesel equipment
Abilities to: Critical think to solve problems, assess a lesson to determine what is and is not working and make adjustments accordingly, adhere to deadlines, create a safe lab environment

The physical demands of the Assistant Professor position require employees to regularly talk, hear, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach with hands and arms. Frequent use of hands for handling, grasping, assembling components, or performing repetitive motions is essential. Employees must be able to sit occasionally, stand and/or walk for over 70% of the workday, bend and twist at the waist frequently, reach from knee to shoulder level frequently and above shoulder level occasionally, and lift or move up to 60 pounds. The position also involves occasional climbing of stairs, constant pushing and/or pulling, frequent carrying, and exposure to equipment, temperature extremes, dust, chemicals, and noise. Clear vision (with or without correction) and normal hearing are required to teach in a lab setting and communicate effectively with students and other employees. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
Work is performed in indoor and outdoor settings in academic buildings, technology labs, and public spaces. The environment may involve exposure to loud noises, hazardous materials, and dust.
Expected to adhere to strict safety protocols, use personal protective equipment (PPE), and comply with all health, safety, and regulatory standards established by the college. Duties may be performed under varying weather conditions.
Conditions of EmploymentThis is a full-time, tenure track faculty appointment with employment expected to begin Winter Quarter 2026, subject to state legislative funding. The State of Washington provides a comprehensive benefits package for all state employees.

Compensation
Placement on the established faculty salary schedule is dependent upon education and teaching experience. The salary range for a 177-day contract is $73,297 - $109,912.
