Job Description:
SUNY Schenectady is seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to join our team as the Director of Network Operations. Under the general direction of the Chief Information Officer (CIO), the Director of Network Operations will provide strategic leadership and oversee the college's IT infrastructure, systems, and user support services. You will be responsible for managing a team of skilled IT professionals and ensuring the efficient and reliable operation of all technology resources. This includes project planning, budgeting, vendor relations, and personnel management.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervisory responsibilities required in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training; planning and assigning projects/tasks; and appraising performance.
Responsibilities:
- Working with the CIO, lead and supervise a team of IT professionals in the delivery of reliable and effective IT services to the college community.
 - Manages efficient Network and Help Desk operations, processes to include training, hiring, managing, and motivating Network Operations personnel.
 - Oversee the management and maintenance of the college's hardware, software, and networking infrastructure and endpoint devices, ensuring high availability and security.
 - Advance the use of telephony services using VoIP technologies.
 - Develop and implement strategic plans to optimize the college's IT infrastructure and systems, ensuring alignment with institutional goals.
 - Establish and enforce IT policies, standards, and procedures to ensure compliance, security, and efficient operations.
 - Manage and ensure that project goals are accomplished and aligned with the operational and educational mission of the College.
 - Collaborate with various stakeholders to assess technology needs, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement innovative solutions.
 - Provide leadership and guidance in disaster recovery planning, business continuity, cybersecurity initiatives, and actively participates in the IT change management process.
 - Ensures applications and services are accessible to persons with disabilities to the extent required by law, including the management of new or modified content.
 - Manage vendor relationships and contracts, negotiating terms and ensuring cost-effective solutions.
 - Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends, evaluating their potential benefits and recommending their adoption when appropriate.
 - Foster a culture of customer service excellence, ensuring timely and effective resolution of IT-related issues and requests.
 - Performs other duties as assigned.
 
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in information technology or related management field.
 - Minimum of five years of experience in IT operations management, preferably in an educational or institutional setting.
 - Strong knowledge of IT infrastructure, systems, and best practices, including hardware, software, networking, and cybersecurity.
 - Experience with managing technology contracts
 - Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team effectively.
 - Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a strategic mindset.
 - Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
 - Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
 - Knowledge of regulatory compliance requirements in the education sector (e.g., FERPA, HIPAA) is a plus.
 - Familiar with telecommunications management.
 - Be data driven and detail oriented.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in higher education preferred.
 - Knowledge of ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) practices.
