Job Description
The Director of Online Education & Instructional Technology is responsible for providing technical support and training in instructional technology and instructional design. This position has multi-campus responsibilities. The Director of Online Education & Instructional Technology facilitates technology-rich teaching and learning by providing evaluation and technical support related to the College’s online learning management system for online, hybrid, and web-augmented courses. This includes support for academic courses, self-paced learning modules, audio/video components, and other training resources for faculty, staff, and students.
Salary Schedule: Appropriate placement on Salary Schedule C3 01 ($60,583- $103,055) based on experience.
This position is not on the tenure/non-probationary track pursuant to Alabama Act 2024-360 and ACCS Policy and Procedure 204.01, wherein any person who is being employed into an executive and administrative management personnel position (whether a new hire or whether a current employee who is being transferred, reorganized, or otherwise moved into such position) shall enter into an employment contract with the College’s President on or after July 1, 2024.
- Train faculty to integrate computer technology into their present curriculum to either enhance or alter their traditional method of teaching.
- Work collaboratively and effectively with faculty throughout the College to integrate student learning outcomes into the design, development, implementation, and management of instructional content, courses and projects within the College’s online learning management system to enrich teaching and learning.
- Train faculty in the development of technology-oriented lessons and the redesigning of courses to include technology, completely changing the course syllabi.
- Train faculty on the proper use of current and existing technology within their disciplines.
- Train faculty to design interactive materials for a variety of delivery systems, digital technology, internet, varied media formats, and electronic classrooms.
- Provide technical support for all online learning management system instructional initiatives to improve learning outcomes, facilitate technology-rich teaching, and advance curricular innovation.
- Perform system administration functions in the learning management system, Canvas, and train faculty to utilize Canvas, MyMathLab, and other applicable software.
- Work with graphic artists, programmers, and subject matter experts in the development of interactive multimedia courseware.
- Assist faculty in designing interactive training material that include sound instructional design methodology, appropriate training strategies, and participant activities for small and large groups.
- Current knowledge in training and development research, learning theory, motivation theory, and new material, methods and techniques cross a variety of disciplines.
- Assists in enhancing teaching and learning through the identification, evaluation, adoption, and integration of effective educational technology innovations into the curriculum.
- Collaborate with College deans and directors, information services, and others to create, review, edit, and share analytic reports for comprehensive evaluation.
- Maintain the reporting of system statistics for the online learning management system and related technology tools.
- Collect and disseminate information pertaining to best practices in educational assessment, curriculum development, and technology-infused innovations.
- Create training materials to accommodate self-learners and provide resources for faculty and conduct seminars, workshops and trainings on various education and technology related topics.
- Evaluate relevant emerging technologies that have potential value for teaching and learning and generate activity reports as well as coordinates and documents projects.
- Assist faculty and staff with developing courses and online learning content for various audiences per design plans/consultation discussions in the LMS and/or using other course authoring tools.
- Serve on various institutional standing and ad hoc committees as appointed by the appropriate administrator.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or appropriate administrator.
- Master’s Degree from an accredited institution with 18 credit hours in technology-related curriculum.
- 2. Three (3) years of full-time experience in instructional technology, educational technology, distance education, and/or instructional design in postsecondary education.
- Documented experience with Canvas
- Proficiency in Windows and Windows-based applications.
- Apple Certifications given preference
- AWS Credentials given preference
