Kenyon College is seeking our next dynamic Director of Student Engagement. This position serves a critical role in fostering sense of belonging at Kenyon and we are excited to welcome applicants who want to help our students create community and grow as student leaders. In cooperation with other Student Affairs staff members, the Director shares an awareness of and concern for all aspects of each student's academic, residential and co-curricular life. The work of the Director of Student Engagement includes some evening and weekend responsibilities, including serving in the campus on-call rotation.

The scope of the Director’s responsibilities includes:

Professional staff supervisionGreek system oversightManagement of student organization management system (KCon)Leadership development/recognition/programmingWeaver Wednesday late night, alcohol-free programming seriesStudent organization support and program coordination Facilities upkeep, updates, and management General student affairs administrationSupervision of student intern program

STAFF SUPERVISION (30%)

Supervise professional and support staff through daily interactions and biweekly one-on-one meetings.Lead weekly departmental team meetings.Conduct quarterly performance evaluations of professional and support staff in keeping with the College’s professional development program.
• Collaborate with other Student Affairs staff members in conducting training/professional development programs for professional and student staff members throughout the Division of Student Affairs.
• Lead efforts to review office workflow, policies, and procedures to ensure clear expectations and provide exemplary customer service.

GREEK LIFE (30%)

Serve as the primary advisor for Kenyon College Greek Life, including governing councils, four inter/national fraternities, five sororities (three local, two national), and one local co-ed service society.Serve as the facilitator for the exploration and establishment of new Greek Life organizations. Advise Greek Life governing bodies by attending weekly executive and general meetings as well as other committees and events affiliated with the Council.Work with inter/national organizations to ensure adherence to both college and national policies regarding Greek organizations rights and responsibilities.Support Greek organization leaders through regular meetings, collaborations, and support programsServe as a member of the Specialty Housing Board to help determine Greek division housing requirements. Oversee Greek programmatic efforts including, but not limited to: formal and informal membership recruitment, new member education programming, community alumni initiatives, Greek Week, and Greek Day of Service.Assist Greek Council in the management of the Standards of Excellence chapter accreditation process.Connect with and support campus and national Greek Life organization advisors.

FACILITIES, OPERATIONS, & PROGRAMMING (25%)

Manage the contract for the implementation, training, and overall administration of a student organization management system (or the alternative).
Manage backend processes in collaboration with LBIS.
Collaborate with other campus offices to grow awareness and use of the student organization management system.Oversee all Student Engagement controlled facilities for general upkeep, usage, visioning, as well as the annual repair and replacement process:
Gund Commons game room and ballroom, Black Box Theater, Colburn Hall, Weaver Cottage, Horn Gallery, and WKCO radio station.Assist in the planning and design of new student spaces as they are built and come online.
Assist in the strategic growth and development of the campus programming board, Social BoardOversee “Weaver Wednesdays,” an alcohol-free late night programming series:
Work directly with registered student organizations and campus departments to develop creative and collaborative late night, alcohol-free programs offering a consistent calendar of events.Assess programs and implement new strategies to best meet the needs of the campus community while still achieving the purpose of alternative late night programs.Provides supervision and support at Weaver Wednesday events.
Develop and implement trainings and resources meant to assist student organizations leaders (e.g., registering organization; budgeting; event planning and registration; training and leadership development; risk management; educating about campus/state/national policies and procedures; help student organizations find advisors; train advisors and student leaders; act as advisor for organizations without advisors; coach; mentor; etc.). Provide leadership on office social media strategy and post on behalf of the Office of Student Engagement.Review and update the registered events with alcohol policy and training program on a yearly basis.Evaluate and administer the Student Organization Handbook on a regular basis. Provide general oversight to office and affiliated programming budgets.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES (15%)

Hire, train, and supervise one or more student interns on work ranging from general office assistance to long-term special projects.Serve on campus committees (e.g., Homecoming, First Year Experience).Responsible for strategic planning, evaluation, and assessment for all areas of responsibility. Partner with campus offices such as Student Rights and Responsibilities, Residential Life, Alumni and Parent Engagement, Community Partnerships, Athletics, and Academic Affairs to best serve students.Serve as a member of the Kenyon on-call rotation (approximately 3 times a semester).Facilitate opportunities for learning and student development among student leaders.Participate in activities and events as a member of the Division of Student Affairs.Other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is generally performed in an office environment but may also require being able to navigate between and within campus facilities including up and down stairs and being outside in various weather conditions. Valid driver’s license and meet campus requirements to drive campus vehicles. Ability to lift and carry 20 lbs. regularly and move tables, chairs, and other furniture. Evening and weekend work is frequent and required.
