What we are looking for:


Maldonado-Burkett is seeking a self-motivated, detail-oriented Transportation/Drainage Engineer to join our Austin office, which is located at 2312 Western Trails Blvd., Suite C-303, Austin, Texas 78745. We are seeking an individual with 5-10 years of experience to help deliver transportation/drainage and traffic engineering projects across the state of Texas and beyond, with a concentration in Hydraulics and Hydrology (H&H).  Licensure as a Texas Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred, but highly qualified EIT candidates will also be considered.


How you’ll make an impact at M-B as a Transportation/Drainage Engineer:


The Engineer will perform engineering work in the field of transportation engineering. The work performed may include (but not be limited to) the following:

  • Drainage Design (H
  • Erosion Control Plans (SW3P);
  • Traffic Control Plans and construction sequencing;
  • Signing and Pavement Marking Plans;
  • Roadway Illumination design (Lighting plans);
  • Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) plans;
  • Data collection;
  • Report writing;
  • Other technical assignments as required by M-B.

Depending upon the experience and capabilities of the candidate, duties may also include:

  • Project Management duties;
  • Supervision of entry or mid-level staff, including providing technical support during project development, review of technical work, or supervision of office activities;
  • Interaction with clients and public agency staff on the phone, via email, or in person;
  • Participation in marketing activities, including development of marketing materials, assistance with maintaining client relationships, and attendance at professional conferences and marketing events with clients;
  • Assistance with recruitment activities (such as attendance at career fairs);
  • Roundabout analysis and modeling;
  • Corridor studies;
  • Long-range transportation planning duties;
  • Traffic projections;
  • The candidate may write and edit technical reports and engineering studies.
  • The candidate will coordinate with M-B technical staff to ensure that the projects’ needs are met in a timely and effective manner.
  • The candidate will regularly utilize standard office tools and software such as Microsoft Office.
  • The candidate will regularly perform CAD drafting in Microstation.
  • Experience with Bentley Open Roads Design software is a plus.
  • Extensive experience with TxDOT/FHWA Hy-8 and CULV5 software.
  • The candidate will utilize photometric analysis software such as AGi32.
  • Experience with SignCAD is a plus.
  • Field work may be required.
  • Limited overnight travel (less than one day per month on average) may be required.


What it takes to be successful as a Transportation/Drainage Engineer:

  • Completion of a four (4) year college level academic program in Engineering with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Course work with emphasis in disciplines related to transportation engineering within the four-year program is preferred.
  • Understanding of Hydraulic and Hydrologic engineering principles, practices, and methods. 
  • Experience with Microstation CAD software is required.
  • Experience with standard computer software such as Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office is required.
  • Experience with other traffic engineering software tools (such as those listed above) is a plus.
  • Previous transportation design experience in consulting engineering with a focus on TxDOT (or other DOT) or other Municipal transportation projects.
  • Licensure as a Texas Professional Engineer (PE) or the ability to obtain a Texas PE License within six months is preferred, but not required.
    • For candidates without PE Licensure or the ability to obtain it within six months, registration as an EIT is required.
  • Experience with and knowledge of photometric analysis procedures and software is a plus.
  • Experience with and knowledge of basic drainage and hydraulic design is a plus.
  • Ability to work in groups;
  • Flexibility with respect to work load and type of work assigned;
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written;
  • Ability to multi-task and manage workloads within the constraints of project delivery schedules;
  • Attentiveness to detail;
  • Willingness to learn new skills;
  • Ability to work with multiple project managers;
  • Self-motivated to identify and execute improvements to the firm’s business procedures;
  • Drive to grow as a professional.
  • May be subject to repetitive motion such as typing and data entry. 
  • May be subject to bending, reaching, standing and lifting such as when conducting on-site inspections.
  • May be subject to exposure to moving traffic, exhaust and extreme weather conditions. 
  • Some extended hours/shifts may be required. 
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. 

Conditions of Employment:

  • Applicant will be subject to a Motor Vehicle Record Check. Satisfactory driving records are required for driving company or personal vehicles and motor driven equipment to conduct company business.
  • Applicant must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen. Safety impact employees will be subject to additional drug and alcohol testing throughout his/her employment.
  • As part of its employment process, M-B may procure or have prepared a criminal background check. An applicant with an unsatisfactory criminal background check report is ineligible to be hired for the position for which the report is initiated.
  • If hired, applicant must provide document(s) within three (3) days of hire date that establish identity and employment eligibility. A complete list of acceptable documents is on file with the local Texas Workforce Commission office or
