Education and Experience- High School Diploma/GED.
- Five (5) years of combined experience in the field of construction or related field inspection or plans review.
Licenses or Certifications- Must possess a valid state driver's license and obtain a valid Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of hire or promotion.
Provisional Building Inspector - $58,156.80 Min - $91,041.60 Max- Possession of, or the ability to obtain within ninety (90) days of hire, a provisional license issued by the State of Florida in one (1) of the following areas required, the area of which is determined by business need: Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical or 1&2 Family.
Building Inspector I - $61089,.60 Min - $95,555.20 Max- Certification as a Building Inspector by the State of Florida in one (1) of the following areas required, the area of which is determined by business need: Building, Electrical, Plumbing, or Mechanical.
Building Inspector II - $64147.20Min - $100,360.00 Max- Certification as a Building Inspector by the State of Florida in two (2) of the following areas required, the area of which is determined by business need: Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical, or a Plans Examiner License.
Building Inspector III - $67,308.80 Min - $105,372.80 Max- Certification as a Building Inspector by the State of Florida in three (3) or more of the following areas required, the area of which is determined by business need: Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical or a Plans Examiner License.
- Inspects new and existing residence, business, commercial and other buildings and structures for conformance with safety and other requirements of established state and local codes.
- Interprets plans and specifications for new buildings/structures, and remodeling plans in residential, commercial and industrial buildings for compliance with established building and safety codes.
- Renders approval or disapproval of inspected sites regarding building code compliance.
- Investigates complaints of defective projects, which are reported, notifies responsible persons of defects, and issues oral and/or written instructions for correction.
- Performs second inspections and reports for compliance or non-compliance to previous violations.
- Advises builders, owners, contractors and architects on building and structural problems.
- Prepares daily records and reports of inspections performed covering conditions found.
- Attends and participates in workshops, meetings, seminars, and/or training opportunities to maintain certification, acquire current industry knowledge, and to maintain current knowledge of regulatory developments.
- May be required to operate a motor vehicle in performance of assigned tasks.
- Maintains assigned vehicle in accordance with municipal policy and procedure.
- Consults with supervisor concerning unusual situations requiring more experienced judgment.
- Performs other related duties as required.
