Employment Litigation Associate Attorney (3rd–5th Year)
Los Angeles or San Francisco

Direct Counsel is seeking a mid-level Employment Litigation Associate to join a prestigious Am Law firm known for its sophisticated Employment Law practice and high-profile clientele.


The Opportunity

This role offers the chance to step into a fast-paced, nationally ranked Employment group handling cutting-edge disputes for Fortune 500 companies, financial institutions, startups, and major employers across a variety of industries. You will receive hands-on experience managing complex litigation, high levels of client interaction, and mentorship from leading partners in the field.


Key Responsibilities
  • Strategically manage all stages of employment litigation in state and federal court (from initial pleadings through trial preparation)

  • Draft and argue motions, including motions to dismiss and summary judgment

  • Conduct fact investigation, document review, depositions, and witness preparation

  • Provide day-to-day counseling to employers on employment law compliance and litigation avoidance strategies

  • Work on matters involving:

    • Trade secret misappropriation and employee mobility disputes

    • Non-compete and restrictive covenant enforcement

    • Pay equity claims

    • Wage & hour (single-plaintiff and class action) matters

    • Discrimination, harassment, and retaliation lawsuits


Ideal Candidate Profile
  • 3–5 years of litigation experience, with a strong preference for employment litigation

  • Background must include significant law & motion work and/or trial prep responsibilities

  • Excellent academic credentials and prior experience with a reputable law firm

  • California Bar admission is required

  • Strong communication, brief writing, and client relationship skills

  • Ability to work independently while also being a collaborative team player


Compensation Range
  • $260,000 – $365,000, depending on experience and qualifications (plus bonus eligibility)
