Join our engineering team to complete exciting engineering designs in support for DDG51 modernizations (upgrades), supporting in-service Navy Ships. Operating under the BIW Business Operating System (BOS), the Engineer 1 resource ensures compliance with safety, quality, and performance standards while coordinating with other key stakeholders to meet overall milestones. You will coordinate the completion of existing and new designs according to requirements.

Support our engineering team as an Engineer 1, by leading the completion of existing and new technical upgrades to DDG51 Class ships. Expand your problem-solving skills while managing projects, leading others, and participating in technical exchanges with customers, such as U.S. Navy Technical Leads. You will both lead design teams and review engineering drawings spanning several engineering disciplines. You will analyze requirements and provide design guidance to our design teams. Work may include trade studies, and special reports. Support designs by participating in equipment qualifications and occasional travel to our port facilities. Work is mainly in office settings, with occasional exposure to industrial environments. We offer tuition reimbursement and a great team environment for you to grow your career with us.

Key Responsibilities

Safety:
  • Champion and enforce BIW safety policies and procedures, including "Design for Safety".
  • Promote a culture of proactive safety awareness and accountability across the team.
  • Ensure safe workplace conditions and compliance with government and company safety standards.

Continuous Improvement:
  • Champion BOS principles and productivity enhancements.
  • Identify and eliminate non-value-added activities, lead implementation of process improvements.
  • Leverage A3 problem-solving and other structured improvement tools.
  • Contribute to the Operational Performance Improvement Plan (OPIP).

Operational Support
  • Report progress and status of assigned work at Departmental White Boards, as required.
  • Support maintenance of EVMS (Earned Value Management System) for scheduled work.
  • Participate in employee performance evaluation process.
  • Support completing Plan of the Week (POW) work items.


Required/Preferred Education/Training

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering is required from and ABET Accredited School (Mechanical / Electrical / Structural / Marine).
  • Engineer I: 0-1 years' experience preferred.


Required/Preferred Experience

  • Prefer completion of prior engineering internship.
  • Aptitude for problem solving.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Maritime or former Navy experience considered.
  • This position requires you to be able to obtain a government security clearance. You must be a US Citizen for consideration and you must be able to obtain an interim security clearance within the first 45 days of hire.
