Job Description

Join our team as a Maintenance Mechanic in a dynamic scrap yard environment. You will be responsible for the upkeep and repairs of trailers and heavy equipment, including forklifts, front end loaders, and cranes. Your expertise in both mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, as well as preventive maintenance, will be essential in ensuring the smooth operation of our equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on tractor trailers and heavy equipment.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues using prints or schematics.
• Conduct maintenance tasks such as greasing, oil and filter changes, and brake repairs.
• Work with hydraulic systems, air pumps, and valves.
• Engage in heavy welding on large metal and steel components.
• Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
• Ensure compliance with site policies and safety procedures.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Operate equipment to ensure functionality.
• Provide notifications for needed repairs and perform any other tasks as requested by management.

Essential Skills

• 5+ years of experience as a mechanic.
• Proficiency in mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Experience with diesel engines and heavy equipment repair.
• Ability to troubleshoot hydraulic hoses and fuel systems.
• Familiarity with electrical schematics and troubleshooting.
• Capability to perform preventive maintenance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
• Possession of a Class A CDL is advantageous.
• Ability to work independently and in various weather conditions.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Experience with diesel engines from tractor trailers or heavy equipment.

Work Environment

Work in a dynamic and safety-oriented scrap yard environment with a team of 20-24 employees. Expect a dirty and loud atmosphere, but with a focus on safety. Be prepared to work in all weather conditions, with uniforms and cold-weather gear provided. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:00 am to 4:30 pm, with possible Saturday hours. Report directly to the supervisor and enjoy the camaraderie of a tight-knit team.

This is a Permanent position based out of HARRISBURG, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $58240.00 - $72800.00/yr.

Benefits make up 3-4 dollars per hour
• Health Insurance (15-27% of premium) – eligible 1st day
