Astro Machine Works is seeking a Full Time Estimator for our growing team.
First shift hours are flexible Monday-Friday starting between 5AM-7:30AM and ending between 3:30PM-5PM, plus overtime. Standard workweek is 45+ hours. OT paid for hours worked over 40.
Role
The Estimator is responsible for developing accurate and competitive cost estimates for custom manufacturing jobs. This role requires a strong understanding of machining, fabrication, and assembly processes, as well as the ability to analyze technical drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
Responsibilities
- Analyze RFQs, engineering drawings, and specifications to prepare time, labor, and material cost estimates.
- Determine manufacturing routings, material requirements, and subcontractor needs.
- Interface with engineering, production, purchasing, and sales teams to gather job details and ensure accuracy of estimates.
- Source and communicate with vendors and subcontractors for pricing.
- Use ERP/MRP systems to create and maintain quote records.
- Prepare formal quotations for customers with clear breakdowns and justifications.
- Review and refine estimates to improve accuracy and profitability over time.
- 3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably a job shop.
- Strong working knowledge of machining, fabrication, welding, and assembly operations.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and estimating software; experience with ERP/MRP systems preferred.
- Excellent math, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred but not required
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience
- 2+ years of experience in cost estimating or quoting custom parts/projects.
- Hands-on shop floor experience is a plus.
- Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 or other quality management systems.
