Managed by 44 full time staff and over 185 student employees, the Carolina Union builds a sense of community as a unifying force on campus and provides students the space and resources needed to put theory into practice.

Position Summary:

The Event Specialist will: Help ensure a high level of customer service is provided to events and conferences taking place during the year at the Carolina Union. This includes answering client questions and resolving event day needs. Help support the maintenance, inventory, and delivery of lighting, audio, and projection equipment for 2 dedicated performance venues, 26 meeting rooms, and off-site programs utilizing Union lighting, audio, and projection gear. This position will work with the Event Managers to ensure successful event support and assist in the supervision and training of student event staff. This position works within the larger team of Event Services and communicates on a regular basis at meetings, on the 25Live scheduling platform, and via email regarding event support needs and production updates.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Knowledge and awareness of event management.
Experience working in a customer service focused environment.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Experience in professional event support, preferably in a higher education setting.
Proficiency with 25Live or similar event management software and Microsoft 365 applications.
Experience working in a student union or comparable environment.
Demonstrated ability to thrive in a customer service-focused setting.
Knowledge of event management principles and familiarity with technical event production, including audio mixing, lighting design, staging, and projection.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements:

Must be able to move up to 50 lbs. with or without accommodation and work in a constantly changing, fast-paced environment.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities:

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
