The Farm/Ranch Underwriter is responsible for the commercial lines underwriting activities and selecting profitable business. You will use sound underwriting judgment within company guidelines and corporate market direction for specific agents within assigned territory to achieve loss ratio and growth objectives. administers and monitors underwriting rules and guidelines, rating manual rules and laws/regulations. You will work as part of an overall team to promote achievement of objectives within the agency group. You will report to the Senior Manager, Production Underwriting.
In this flex office/home role, you will be expected to work a minimum of 10 days per month from one of the following office locations: Madison, WI 53783; Boston, MA 02110; Denver, CO 80112; Eden Prairie, MN 55343; Keene, NH 03431; St. Joseph, MO 64507; Phoenix, AZ 85034

Primary Accountabilities
- You will apply insurance and risk concepts to underwrite new business for basic and/or less complex products. Depending upon product, underwriter may re-underwrite based upon policy guidelines.
- You will effectively manage the decision-making process and maintain standards through knowledge and application of corporate business process procedures, effective communication and overall agent relationship management skills.
- You will evaluate profit factors in area of responsibility. Identifies when reinsurance may be required.
- You will establish rapport with agents and sales management in their area of operation. Serves as a resource for the field force and sales management.
- You will escalate more complex risk to experience team members or manager for guidance.
- You will serve as technical resource in multi-line underwriting environment and principle contact for agents; monitor agency performance, recommend, and execute remedial action plans to address quality of business, flow, mix, penetration, etc.
- You will resolve billing and other agents' service requests; participate in the agency review process in support of territorial initiatives.
Specialized Knowledge & Skills Requirements
- Demonstrated experience providing customer-driven solutions, support or service
- Demonstrated underwriting experience in area of expertise (specific products or line)
- Basic knowledge and understanding of insurance, underwriting guidelines and risk concepts in area of expertise.
- Up to 10% travel
