The Traffic Control division of Regulatory Services is seeking an exceptional dynamic and culturally agile supervisor to lead our diverse workforce.

Primary role is to supervise staff and oversee the monitoring and enforcement of parking regulations and traffic control functions.

The Field Supervisor position requires flexibility to work various shifts, based on events taking place within the city. Scheduling requires availability to work, days, evenings, and nights; weekends, holidays, and snow emergencies.

Work Location

This position currently works on-site only.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct and/or oversee the development of training manuals and updating of training techniques.

  • Train and provide guidance to Code Compliance Specialist on department and divisional policies and procedures, equipment and technology used for enforcement and traffic responsibilities.

  • Train and assist Code Compliance Specialist (Traffic) in relaying information to other City departments, particularly when resolving problems out in the field.

  • Manage all aspects of the schedule for Code Compliance Specialist and Field Supervisors.

  • Prepare cases and files for administrative court procedures and appear and present at hearings.

  • Manage staff development, through mentoring, training, performance management, and disciplinary procedures.

  • Work with staff to implement programs and initiatives that will improve and maintain a positive and productive workplace culture.

  • Oversee and initiate investigations as needed.

  • Conduct day to day operations.

  • Represent Traffic Control on department and enterprise-wide committees and community engagement activities, and meetings.

  • Respond to staff accident and injuries, conduct follow-up, document appropriately, and communicate with management and other departments as needed.

  • Promote a culturally inclusive work environment.

  • Demonstrate outstanding leadership skills, including conflict resolution, and provide guidance to staff.

  • Work with management to ensure policies and procedures are followed.

  • Participate in emergency preparedness planning.

  • Participate in Traffic Control required meetings.

  • Perform all duties of Code Compliance Specialist.

  • Support code compliance specialist in presenting court testimony and evidence at hearings.


Working Conditions:

  • Work in the field and office.

  • Physical activity; working outside in all types of weather, including extreme heat and extreme cold.

  • Considerable standing and walking long distances for long periods of time.

  • Considerable use of hands/fingers/arms/shoulders.

  • Holding flashlights for extended periods of time.

  • Directing traffic while standing in the middle of busy intersections.

Required Qualifications

Education
One Year Post High School Work

Experience
Three years of experience which includes exposure to law enforcement, parking enforcement, dealing with violators, and with the administrative citation process, and/or the Court System, and experience working with parking and traffic control technology. Supervisory experience is preferred.

License/Certifications
Valid Driver's License

Equivalency

An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.

Interview Selection

The hiring authority reserves the right to determine the maximum number of candidates to interview from the established eligible list. ?If the hiring authority decides to interview other than by exam score order, they may select additional people to interview based on a candidate's education or experience related to the field, work history, or skills uniquely related to the operational needs of the position.

Background Check

The City has determined that a criminal background check and/or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title. Applicants may be required to sign an informed consent form allowing the City to obtain their criminal history and/or verify their qualifications in connection with the position sought. Applicants who do not sign the informed consent form will not be further considered for the position.

Drug and Alcohol Testing

All job applicants must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test once a conditional offer of employment has been made. ?Applicants will be required to sign a notification and consent form prior to undergoing drug and alcohol testing. ?Applicants who do not consent to undergo drug and alcohol testing will not be required to do so and the City will withdraw the conditional job offer, resulting in the job applicant no longer being considered for the position.?

Eligible List

The names of applicants who meet minimum qualification and who pass the screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for employment consideration. ?This list will be certified to the hiring manager who may use the list to fill a vacancy of the same job title. ?This eligible list will expire 1 month after it has been established.
